Good Morning
I am not sure where to post this question, but if it's in the wrong place please re-direct me.
I want to create my own custom GPS mapping solution for a unique problem.
Crab and Lobster Fishing
It's a common problem to loose your pots through theft or accidental running over by boats and ships.
I'd like to create A simple windows application to map the the string of pots as I drop them on to the sea bed, then recover them by grappling at right angles to the drop line. I would not use any surface markers which should stop the casual theft and entanglement problem
I need to create a GPS graphical appliactions to First record the drop line then secondly guide me through the middle of it at right angles to recover the line.
Is there a GPS software development product that would be suitable for this task?
Or prehaps there allraedy is a gps plotter that can do all this.
I am a hobbyist, so on a budjet and would enjoy yhe development challange
Thanks

Memory-map would do this - on a laptop or PDA with GPS , Just 'mark' each pot and record the track log. |

I am not a fisherman but carrying a GPS handheld you could mark each end of the string and using the handeld - return to within 10feet.
The ends of the string is marked and also a storepot.
The track to the location and back can be kept in the unit to use as often as needs be!
Here are your locations marked on Google Earth!
This track/route can be kept on the PC in case you lose the GPS overboard.
Here is the unit view that can be used in car, boat or walking and keeps every track, speed and bearing. The markers are 70feet apart.

Memory Map is no good for some units - I cannot use it.
My unit can use the proper 'marine' mapping or TOPO or Road Mapping.
My garmin tracks open on the PC in Mapsource or Google Earth.
The most important maps are those that show your coast.
The most important use for the unit is to find way home to within 10feet of your mooring in thick fog! _________________ Garmin Oregon 300 + Garmin iQue 3600

is there any GPS windows developement IDE applications.
some graphical development environment for creating custom gps appliactions.
I don't want to re-invent the wheel , but it would be intesting to create a custom application for this task
