I thought I read somewhere that it gets info from Traffic Master (as well as vodaphone).

I am wondering whether to subscribe to "trafficTV" for the iphone when it finally comes out, or to just upgrade my "Go 300" to a "Go 540".

I would like to get fairly reliable Traffic updates.

I live down in Surrey and mainly travel into London, around the M25 / M23 and up the M11 to Norfolk.

Thanks for any replies.

No. It uses HD Traffic Data which is a combination of the rich data sourced from Vodafone and the iTIS TMC Traffic Feed.

I'd sample the service on the 540 first before spending more money.

Thanks for that, bit of a shame because I find that Traffic Master (via TrafficTV) is pretty reliable.

Garmin use data from Traffic Master but it is sent to the device over the FM radio band and the receiver is far from being reliable. RDS-TMC reception in the UK is problematic whether you use iTIS data or Traffic Master.
If you do get the 540 you will have three months use of the Live HD Traffic service before you have to pay a monthly subscription, three months is long enough to work out whether the service is of use to you - Mike

If you view the Tomtom Live launch videos with Tom Brown from TomTom, he states that they combine data from Vodafone trafficmaster, tmc.

According to the slide, the are also using probe data from Tomtom Work (no mention of the x40 devices tho, which would have provided TT with many more probes on the road). They also state that the use info from the road authorities, but the info on HD Traffic is showing info that is shown on the trafficengland (i.e Highway Agency website).

As TT use ITis for their TMC feed, they are implying that they use both sources (i.e trafficmaster, tmc etc) for the HD Service. Clearly this is not the case.

They also seem to imply that HD traffic will increase coverage over time. Currently London seems to be well covered, but less so elsewhere. I think tomtom are trying to keep quiet the fact that only the major routes (motorways, and major trunk roads) are covered outside of London. i.e roads in london show with 1min delay. A roads local to me with more traffic are not covered. Hopefully this will improve with time.

Thanks again.

I have actually just found the article that mentioned Trafficmaster. It was in PC Pro Magazine before Christmas.

Which video is this?

They do use x40 data (and HD Traffic Accessory data in Holland)

Isn't that the same thing?

How are they implying that?

HDT does not show information (particularly road closures) that are shown on the Highways Agency website.
