I would just wait a while for a new release to address the problems you have with 8,300 - no idea when it might be made available, but rather than mess up your device I would wait for a bit.
If you do try running the x40 software on your device returning the unit back to what it should be running could take a few hours depending upon your PC connectivity - Mike

TELREA if you do want to give it a try make sure you do a full back of your current configuration with Windows Explorer first. Having said all that I can testify that it works very well indeed on my 920T and I will not be going back to 8.300 or 8.010 for that matter Very Happy

Oh and here is the link to 8.204 that you were looking for

Is that link OK for the 720 or only the 920?

A good few have it running on successfully 720s so you should be OK, make sure you back up first though (sound like an old record don't I).
The other point is you may want to consider using V7 voices, a quick search on this forum should find you the links to the correct CAB files.

I can't be very good at looking or not finding the right link.

Do you have a link to the V7 or V7.1 Voice files?

There are links to V7 voices in the 'voice problem after 8.3 on 720' thread, go to page 25, 2nd post down. The instructions there are useful too.

I have run 8.204 on my 730 this week because I thought it was worth a try after using the buggy 8.3. I can report that over a few thousand miles the device never crashed or locked up. The RDS TMC worked ok but not the GPRS traffic. GPRS worked for weather and quickfix. It still tahes a long time to calculate a route of about 240 miles, and making a wrong turn at the start of the routes requires parking up whilst the device calculates the new route. The refresh rate seems better with 8.204.
I will restore my 8.3 backup for now as I like the GPRS traffic.

That is correct. No way to remove it. Discussed here

TELREA I notice you have a x20 device. With my 920T I only see the traffic bar on the right hand side IF I have my RDS-TMC antenna plugged in. Take it out and the traffic bar disappears. So no problems there, I'm sure your 720 would be the same.
