It's a 740 you've bought, right?

There is no 720 Live, is there? There's a 720T and a 740 Live, I think.

Anyway, your problem probably lies with the fact that TomTom have a habit of releasing software for the units before the required .dll for PC operation is available. It will turn up eventually, if that's any consolation.

As Tim has said earlier in the thread the problem lies with a missing file that the TomTom Home software needs to download for this feature to work, when TomTom make it available it will be automatically downloaded then the feature will work - just keep trying with the device - Mike

Just spoke to Tom Tom who admitted that the thread to operate the 720 on the P.C. is missing. H e said he would send me an e mail when it will be available. I told him it was very naughty of Tom Tom to sell products that are not fully functional, he didnt even offer me a free subscription to 1 months traffic....anyway lets see how long this takes to fix.

What a pain in the arse!

I hadn't yet noticed that this feature doesn't work, that means that at the moment you can't add locations from GoogleMaps from your PC to your TomTom.

I know it now has Google search built in, but I would still imagine using the PC version sometimes, as it is just easier when you can see the location using satelite imagery.

Also is there a way of setting up a PIN number without a PC? I hadn't gotten around to doing that just yet, so it is quite insecure should it be stolen.

This device is looking more and more unfinsihed every day!

I have to say, I think the x40 range are incredible bits of tech. Is it possible all the downers you have seem worse because you don't really need one?

I think the PIN number feature for a start is essential to any device which stores personal details such as your home & work address.

And I agree that the x40 is great on paper, but they really need to address these bugs and they need to communicate them to their customers.
eg. A little insert saying something along the lines of 'Thankyou for purchasing a TomTom from our brand new range - please be aware that at present some usual features are not yet ready and some others are not working exactly as hoped, but don't worry we are working on it and will release an update shortly which you can download from TomTom Home.'

I know TomTom are not the only company in the world releasing unfinished products, but a Sat Nav is quite an important device and when they go wrong it can be quite stressful such as when trying to navigate through a difficult junction whilst the voice is stuttering, or when the device tells you that the service is not working properly because you are in a foreign country.

if you have a pc the pin number is useless and can be disabled by anyone connecting to the unit, so therfore your home address and other details you are trying to secure are there to be seen, if you dont want info to be read, dont put it on the unit!! for instance, a street near your home address is sufficient to calculate a route home and keeps your home address secret.

The .dll file required to run the on-screen emulator in home is now available for the 940 as well.
