Over the last few days I've tried to restore my 2210 backup file (using both iPAQ backup and activesync). Both methods failed (the first screen after reset sticking on a completed bar and as the bar built none of usual signs (such as slight pause and timer)

I've found that 2 TomTom files couldn't be restored and think they are causing problem (one for today screen which could be removed by taking out this option) the other ttbtdev.dll is harder as used (despite me not using bluetooth but a fixed GPS!). Did try a backup with just TT3 and this failed on restore so think that it is TT3, other programs do backup/restore OK

So, after finding out the hard way how long a restore does take after a hard reset (despite having backups!!!), I'm keen to avoid this in future..... Have seen another post with a similar problem - but that was fixed with no idea how!

Has anybody else had this problem and any ideas for solutions?

I've managed to successfully backup and restore my machine, which includes TomTom Navigator 3, using version 2.1.4 of Sprite Backup - which is the evolution of iPAQ Backup. The only wrinkle I've found is that it works better if you don't reset the time and date until you've restored the backup.

I've yet to try version 3.0.0 'in anger', but I suspect the experience will be the same if not better, as there's been a lot of debugging between version 2.1.4 and version 3.0.0.

An upgrade to Sprite Backup 3 Premium Edition from your built in version of iPAQ Backup will only cost you US$10 (plus VAT if bought in the European Union) - see here for details. The download link will give you 3.0.0, not 2.1.4 - that hasn't been updated.

You can try this version of Sprite Backup for free for ten days.

The ttbtdev.dll can be done away with by uninstalling your current version of TomTom GPS (which will need uninstalling twice) and installing GPS 2.07 from this site.

Thanks David

I've upgraded my backup to Sprite 3 and it has successfully backed up and restored TomTom 3 and other programs. Success!!!

The upgrade to latest backup software is well worth it anyway - it can automatically manage backup files (naming and space taken) which helps keep a few older copies. Well worth it and my new paranoia on backing up!

thanks again for your help

Sprite Backup Premium Edition is a huge improvement over iPAQ Backup - you mention one of my favourite features (automatic management of old backup files). I like to keep two hanging around, otherwise if one backup fails, I can finish up without a backup file on my SD card.

When I said I've yet to use version 3.0.0 'in anger', I meant to do a full restore from. I've had 3.0.0 installed since it released, and it seems to be working well.
