I like one or two other sensible folk, will be leaving things alone.

I'll download it when it becomes officially available/offered to me, that way if it goes kaput, it's down to TT.

The risk of making your device kaput should be next to zero if you make a proper backup before copying the Navcore 8.2 files onto it.

Just to reiterate what I said earlier, I installed this and have had no problems at all with my 730T. As has been said, if you have a proper backup, you cannot ever really screw up!!
Take the plunge, it's like having a new machine!
Cool

Try removing your SD card and copy the extracted files from your hard disk (i.e unzip the CAB file onto your PC before copying) onto your previous 8.010 installation. If your voices were working before it should really work after the update.
The reason for removing the SD card is that some files connected to the previous software version may have ended up on the SD card forcing it into booting v8.010 instead of v8.203. That's what happened to me. After removing all files except the map folder from the card I could put it back into the device and Navcore 8.2 would boot nicely.

Has anyone noticed that the version of the GPS driver has changed from v1.21 to v1.20 when upgrading to Navcore 8.2? Strange isn't it?

I have exactly the same as Cazmar, No voices.
I tried extracting to pc first then copied to 520 TT unit (not sd card)
No voices.

Reinstalled backup then tried to extract files straight to unit and still no voices.

I tried to copy the voices folder from backup to new software and also leaving on this folder when putting on new software.

Went and put backup back on as not getting any where with it!

gluey, is it only the vocies that disappear or all sounds (mp3, poi warnings etc)?
Since you have followed exactly the same procedure as me I can really not see why the result is different.
Maybe the best thing is to revert back to v8.010 and wait for v8.203 to be available for download in TT Home.

This no voice issue is probably down to the differences in the voice files contained in the LoquendoTTS folder, if any of you recall the issues when the x30 units came out x20 LoquendoTTS files were tried on the device only to find they wouldn't work.
Perhaps the same is occuring here, two types of LoquendoTTS files one set that works and one that doesn't - Mike

Well, switched on last night and no sound! Thought - oh no, here we go! Reset and they came back. Tried it just now and voices as they should be so perhaps just a TT Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday etc etc blip.
Must admit that the "running down" of the battery while switched off problem appears to have gone away! Almost fully charged this morning and since I did the upgrade to V8.2.
Still love it.

Is this any differences between the 520/720 and the 530/730, I wonder?

Mmm, famous last words..

Just like the pilot said to the Captain of the Titanic...

Trust me I know a shortcut.

Thanks, but no thanks, also the question is how long will it be before TT block it?

And what makes you think this would happen? Are you referring to the situation back in June where TomTom by accident made the Navcore 8 SW available to the x20 users and then withdrew it only a few days later? The reason for that withdrawal makes sense since the x20 and x30 HW are identical and TomTom wanted to wait for the stocks of x20 in the stores to sell out before allowing people to upgrade to Navcore 8.

The situation now is different since the x40 devices have a new hardware. Even though we (i.e x20/x30 users) are able to download and install the latest software we will not have the possibility of reaching the same feature level as the x40 since we have no HD receiver integrated. In addition we don't have he maps with the IQ Routes v2 data included so we can not make full use of the Navecore 8.2 SW.
