I want to edit the names of a whole load of entries in some POI files (basically to either re-arrange the order of the words in the name or to abbreviate a certain word).
I can't think of any way to do this to the TomTom .ov2 files I'm using - POI Edit doesn't seem to have any way to do it except one by one.
So...I was going to do it by converting them to .csv, editing in Excel and then converting back.

I recently updated my "pubs" POI, where I have merged the "Pubs", "Wetherspoon pubs" and "Dining pubs" categories.
I want to have them all in one category, and have done this successfully with other categories using a devious combination of combined and individual downloads to get the names how I want them, but it's not quite worked here...
So at the moment I'm getting (for example):
Rose and Crown, Ilford (i.e. Name,Town)
Wetherspoons, Royal Oak, Hampstead (i.e. Brand, Name, Town)
Dining Pub, Wandsworth, Kings Head (i.e. Brand, Town, Name)
(I understand how a combined category will have the "brand name" at the front but an individual download won't, but I'm not sure how I've ended up with example 2 and 3 being different here!)
What I fancy is:
Rose and Crown, Ilford
WS, Royal Oak, Hampstead
DP, Kings Head, Wandsworth
or something like that (maybe putting the abbreviations at the end instead, but the principle is the same).

.csv and Excel seems to be the way....
Yes I would use either Excel to add the WS, and DP, to the front of the Name field or a good text editor like TextPad. Excel will be more straightforward as the CSV data is separated into columns.
My POIConverter program will not be much help in this instance. It can be used to merge the CSV files but you can do that in Excel anyway. _________________ Various TomToms, Garmin eTrex Legend, GPSMAP 60CSx, Oregon 550t, Forerunner 405

I disagree, POIConverter is the lightweight means of converting the POI file (.ov2) to a variety of different formats (.xls) and back.
IMHO the familiarity of .xls is visually the easiest to deal with, using the "Replace All" function within Excel to change the entries.
