Driving through a local village I get the warning of "average speed check zone - speed limit 70mph". Now this is quite clearly a 30mph road and so I would imagine it is picking up the average speed zone from the A14 over 1/2 mile away (as the crow flies).
Is this normal to pick up an alert from that far away and/or is there a way to limit the radius range of the alerts (TT720 using PGPSW database)?

What distance have you got set for the Specs 70 camera category on your device? and do you use the "Warn only if POI on Route" option when setting the warnings - Mike

I've got them all set at the distance in the table for 15sec warning (513 yards @ 70mph). I will reduce the Specs 70 and see if that does the job.
I have the "warn only if poi is one route" option unchecked, as advised in the installation guide, because I use the device mostly for phone use and speed camera notification without a route planned.

I myself would not reduce the warnings distance for specs as they are average speed cameras I think you should have the only warn when on route ticked as you will pick up camera on near by roads

I have to disagree....

Probably SPECS camera warnings can be much SHORTER than any others as they don't make any instant readings of your speed, so you have plenty of time to react.

Also the OP said that he wants to drive around with no route set. If that is the case he MUST leave "warn only when on route" un-ticked or he will get no warnings at all.

But there is no way round it and if you choose to set your sat nav up like this you will get false readings from nearby roads its all about compromise .

I understand what you are saying regarding the average speed camera I myself would prefer to have too much warning rather than too little !!! the more time you have on the road to react to something the better

He would still get the visual warnings if the only warn when on route was ticked
