Hi all! Don't know if this the right section to ask this, but here goes!
Where can I get a small power adaptor that I can connect to a 12volt supply and get 5 volts out to power my TomTom on my bike? I have made a mount for my 1st generation TomTom ONE and fitted it to my 1999 Yamaha R6 but due to the short battery life, I need to power it from the bike battery, but need to step it down to 5 volts. Is there anything available, or do I have to "butcher" a cigarette socket lead? Space is at a premium, so any suggestions? Thanks, Dave.

The easy way is to fit a 12V ciggie lighter socket to the bike and a TomTom car charger lead, tape the two together and bury this within the bike fairing/ battery housing etc.
The TomTom chargers supply up to 2 amps of current, most USB car based charges supply considerably less and should be avoided.

If you could post some pictures of the installation on the bike I am sure quite a few would be interested in this as DIY installs often show off peoples true ingenuity - Mike

Get a 12v cigarette lighter extension cable from Maplin. Chop off the plug, connect to the battery via a fuse and then plug the TomTom adapter into that. DO NOT try other solutions unless you want a fried TomTom!

Or get a RIDER Wink

Thanks for the prompt reply! Very Happy I thought this would be the solution. I just have to find some space for the lighter extension plug/socket as there is NO room under the seat on my R6 for a cigarette, let alone a cigarette adaptor! Wink I once had ( a long time ago) A lead that connected to a 12 volt supply and terminated in a right angle jack plug that fitted the TomTom. it had a small plastic unit in it that measured aprox 2.5" x .5"x.5" with a green power light, I just don't know where I got it, (though I remember ordering it from a link off this site)! The RIDER is a nice idea, but I just happen to have a spare ONE that works!! Very Happy
