I am travelling to Northern Cyprus, and I believe Speed Cameras (both Static and Hand Held) are being excessively used. Does anybody know what type of Cameras (i.e.gatso etc) are being used, so that I can obtain a detector in the UK, as I am asked what type of cameras are they using for me to purchase the correct type. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mikeglossop

I wonder if any sat nav covers even Southern Cyprus let alone Northern Cyprus Very Happy

N. Cyprus is not yet an internationally recognized territory.

And any camera using Laser cannot be reliably detected anyway.

Thanks for your comments. It would be interesting to hear from anybody who can help with my question, even in the South of Cyprus as I have been informed that there are over 250.

Blimey, are you sure? Last time I was in Cyprus I got the feeling there weren't many more than 250 miles of tarmac roads.

Been to Southern Cyprus last December. Covered 2000 km in 7 days.

On motorways [similar to our dual carriageways] there were no speed cameras. Only saw one hand held radar gun detection incident near Larnaca.

There are some Gatso style speed/red light cameras inside towns.

On motorways, traffic were much less compared to here and you can easily cruise at 120 km/h [limit 100 km/h]

Many thanks for your helpful reply, hope you enjoyed Cyprus as much as I have in the past, a truly wonderful experience mixing old with new.

Hey, look! Forget the cameras. Slow right down and positively enjoy the place. A beautiful place like that deserves to be appreciated at leisure.

And now I'll apologise for my first (jokey) post - last time I was in Cyprus was probably before most of you were born, was certainly before partition and even more certainly before they dreamed of dual carriageways and speed cameras - I took a wrong turning one day down a mountain driving a hired minibus and ended up having my passengers picking up boulders from in front of one wheel to put down in the huge hole in front of the other. When we got to the bottom, the villagers pointed out I'd driven down a dry stream bed. It had started off looking just like the usual unsurfaced road I had turned off! They didn't have kilometres either.

I'll bet a whole lot of money they are still the same welcoming people there though.
