Aerial for Nuvi 250w

I am thinking of buying a 250w to replace my Garmin PDA based navigator. I am using an external aerial with my Holux236 receiver as the windows on my car interfere with reception. I expect to have the same problem with the receiver in the 250w and I have looked for an aerial for the 250w on Ebay and elsewhere but cannot find one. I would be grateful if someone could advise where I can find one to order at the same time as the 250w.

I would imagine that the Garmin takes an MCX connector for the antenna.
This is probably the same as your existing one.

Might be worth a visit to your local shop to have a look at the 250W and see if your existing one is suitable.

I'm pretty sure you can get adapters for the different kinds of connector at the MAPLIN store if you find it needs the "mini MCX" (MMCX) instead.

You might find that a more modern GPS with a higher sensitivity receiver will actually work fine without the antenna in any case.

Take your car to the shop and give it a try.

IF (and it's a strong if with modern receivers) you need an antenna this one is probably the one you need.

It's the same one that i used with my i3 and also works with my Nuvi 760 - not that i need it....

I've got that one and it works fine with my 360, 760, and GP12XL.

The magnet is good and strong, and it sits on the outside of the car (if that's where you want to put it) with no fear of getting blown off.

Thank you for the useful replies. My aerial has an mmcx connector so i take it that this would not fit the 250w? When I get a chance I will take the aerial into a shop to see if it fits.

in our focus the garmin i3 really struggled to get a satellite fix but the nuvi200 has had no problems at all.

i'd say it's safe to assume you shouldn't have any trouble

I got an external one for my I3, for use when using hire cars with athermic / heated windscreens.

As MaFt advises, never been a problem with the 250.

I have just got a 250W. I can confirm the device has no external connectors apart from USB/charge cable socket.. not even headphone which surprised me.
However, I use mine situated in the caddy by the gear lever , well down in the car and once it has a signal it never fails. I even got a full signal while playing with the device in the middle of my lounge. Try it first b4 buying an aerial.
PS. What I have found is you need to get a signal b4 you move about...i.e. if you jump in the car, move off and then switch on.. it struggles to locate ..but this is logical if u think about it.
PPS.. once on the move, I have tried many times to confuse it by deliberatley changing suggested route and it will recalculate a new route instantly. Overall very impressive so far.
