|

Hi,
This is my first post so apologies if this has been covered before.
I am trying to set up some subscriptions for PoiEdit 2007 to run updates with pocketgpsworld POIs.
The syncing works ok with other sites e.g. POI Handler, but I get an error when it tries to download the xml file for the site, saying the file does not exist.
www.pocketgpsworld.com/poisync/pocketgps.xml is the file it is looking for. I have pasted this into a browser and got a 404 (IE7, XP SP2)
Any advice
Thanks,
Colette |

A Search throws up quite a few references to pocketgps.xml, but this will give you the info you are looking for - it won't work. _________________ Jock

Welcome to the forum, POIEdit is not supported by the Pocket GPS World web site for POI downloads, you are free to download any of the POI categories listed on the POI Downloads page but you will have to unzip the download to access the files on your PC - Mike |

Thanks for the clarification, Mike.
I was only really interested in PoiEdit for automating the download process to save picking the sub categories each time I felt like doing an update.
As long as I've got the POIs I am a very happy bunny (especially with a brand new TT One 920T to test them out with ).
Cheers.

Because our POis are stored in a master database and each request is created dynamically we no longer support POIEdit, sorry. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Are there any plans to create a better method of keeping track of POI's?
Would it be possible to save the selection of POI's that a user downloads, so that each month they can quickly and easily download the latest?
Ideally it would only need to download any POI's that have been updated since the last download? |

taken from a recent discussion in mod's forum:
MaFt wrote: | nope
form memory it is due o the script used that creates the 'tree' directory structure. the values used for each category change if a new category is added...
eg:
1 - supermarkets
1a - aldi
1b - asda
1c - tesco
say you wanted tesco saving it would save '1c' as a category value
then when richard realises good ol' northern morrisons exists and gets added the list would then become:
1 - supermarkets
1a - aldi
1b - asda
1c - morrisons
1d - tesco
so a cookie that remembered 1c for tesco would then actually falsely 'remember' morrisons...

the 'tree generation' is a different entity to the actual database and is created on the fly when a user loads the page - the sub categories are pulled from the database and placed in alphabetical order...
so, in the database for this example then yes morrisons WOULD have a higher id number than tesco BUT in terms of the tree it is lower due to alphabetical order.
hope this is kinda clear...
i did ask lutz when it was set up if we could do this and this was the basics of what he said.
