I have recently received the Map update 2008 Europe NT DVD and downloaded it onto my nuvi360 via my PC.

Is there a way of accessing the maps on my PC so that I can plan routes in advance?

I have a motor home and sometimes find it taking me down routes which are too narrow!

Sorry?. i cannot help you on this, i have a nuvi 360 as-well
and i would like to plan a route on my pc and transfer the data to the satnav, as i go camping and like to take more scenic routes, which the satnav dose not.
BUT if you have a laptop get some software called,(micrsoft autoroute
2007 with gps locator) i bought one for £80. it turns your laptop into a sat nav, and you can plan your route to the last detail. and is very easy to use.
you can even add your own roads and POIs.
i used this to plan my camping holiday in the Alps, and then programed
my satnav to do the same route, which was a pain in the butt.
So you might be thinking ,why did u not use the laptop as a satnav. ( i was on a motorbike) so if you have a laptop you can fit this in your camper, as i have seen other camper van owners use there laptops as satnavs with this software.
Let me know if you find anything....

Does the DVD not install MapSource to your PC? I've been playing with the v9 DVD and been making Routes that i can then download to my Nuvi 760. I realise older models might not allow this but MapSource allows you to view the maps and even get it to calculate routes between points on the PC....

Thanks Paul for your reply
I have saved the DVD to my PC, but when I click on MapInstall it comes up with " Select the device where you would like your maps installed." It then has a box saying " If you dont find see your device below connect it to the computer, turn it on and then click "find device"". If I connect the nuvi 360 it just trys to re-install the update on it. If I dont but press "find device" I get a message " No devices found".

I cant find a way of installing it on the PC. Any ideas?

Try downloading Mapsource from the Garmin site. Your My Garmin data will give you the unlock code. However, I am not sure whether you need a DVD version of Mapsource as well. This used to be on the DVD's with V8 but now you don't get the DVD on units with pre-installed maps. Give it a try!

I have a Nuvi 350, and it is not possible to pre-plan and upload routes onto it. My guess is that the 360 is the same. I believe that you need to move to a 7xx series (or maybe 6xx, not sure) to be able to do this

i think your right, its not possible to per-plan and upload routes.
even mapsource from the garmin web site will not work with my 360.
i all-so have tryed other programs, and the only one that seems to work
is a free program from easyGPS. http://www.easygps.com/
but it only shows my own POIs, so what is this program for.
PS. what is geocaching. Embarassed

I am a motorhome owner as well and I can tell you this. the only nuvi range that allows route and waypoint transfer is the 700 series. no other nuvi has this facility. Plenty of earlier Garmin units allowed this, God now's why the nuvi did not until now......

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and "treasure," usually toys or trinkets of little value. Today, well over 540,000 geocaches are registered on various websites devoted to the pastime. Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica.

Mapsource will give you the ability to plan routes on your PC. However, with the 3, 5 or 6 series Garmins you cannot transfer routes (or even driving speeds) onto your Garmin. However, you can then segment your planned route and put in your final destination and add 1 via point at a time as you travel. Tiresome but if you find th evia points before you set out you can then re-find them quickly en route using "Recently Found".

Thanks Guys
Having logged onto 'My Garmin' and gone to 'support-downloads and updates' I found I could download Mapsource onto my PC and when I clicked on Unlock I found that it had already recognised Update 2008 and the unlock key so now I am in business Smile !

I accept that I will not be able to upload routes to my nuvi 360, but at least I can plan my route for a forthcoming trip to Norway in my motorhome! At first glance it seems to have picked up many of the POIs etc.

By the way EasyGPS is great for POIs via POILoader. I used it to load on a lot of camp sites.

Thanks for the feedback, Skipper. It is good to know that Mapsource is still available. Maybe it can also be downloaded by those who have not updated?

I would guess you can providing you have a previous unlock code registered. I started using it before I checked my unlock code on Mapsource.
