Tomtom One V1 damaged screen..........

On the wife's TT1 v1 (my old battered unit!) the screen has a dead spot (badly scratched), it is on the bottom right, it is a nightmare entering postcodes and addresses and i have to resort to using TomTom Home to store all addresses that she needs to get about, you can mess about by flipping the screen which obviously moves the dead spot to another corner/small keyboard/large keyboard/use left handed etc, but is still a large annoyance for her. Now is there anyway of "buffing up the screen" to improve the touch pad or would it more likely be a damaged board?
and does anyone know if the touchscreen can be replaced and if so, is it worth it?.............
