hi all, just noticed over the weekend that my tomtom 6 is slow to put the cursor at my actual position, it is scrolling along, but as said, around 200 yds behind. normally the cursor scrolls along quite quickly at the exact point. i have not downloaded any fixes etc that i have been reading about, my mitac p350 is running exactly as always, i have done nothing different!

any advice would be greatly received!!

regards all

Possibly just corrupt data, reset the device then leave it on a window to get a new fix and retest.

thanks for the reply darren, and sorry for double posting! thought that i had put in wrong forum!

i have reset the p350 darren, and then left it on the windscreen, it logs on again, but up to now this weekend it still has the time lag, just drove 30 miles to work this morning, and it was lagging all the way, although the speech still was correct. do you think it is just corrupt data, would it help to re format my sd card and re-install again, i have a back up of the sd card??

many thanks

Assuming you have not updated the software etc before it started going awry then the corrupt data I refer to is the Ephemeris data downloaded from the satellites themselves.

Giving it time to re-acquire can often correct stale or corrupt data, the other option is a reset and failing that, a utility such as Winfast Navigator can be installed which can be used to force a cold start of the GPS, a cold start will require the receiver to re-download Alamanac and Ephemeris data.

so is this problem with my tomtom programme and or my pda, or is it just a matter of waiting for the data to correct itself?

regards

Go to Change Preferences/ Enable_Disable POI and de-select any POI that are selected, do this for everything listed including the speed cameras if installed.
Use Change Preferences/ Manage POI/ Warn when near POI to flash up when you are close to the Point of Interest, this method is more efficiant and doesn't slow the screen re-draw down quite as much as displaying POI.
Even if you haven't enabled any POI you should still check the above as installing custom POI files to TTN6 will automatically select them slowing down the display resulting in position lag - Mike

As a matter of interest are you using a silent voice as this caused the same problem on my version of TT6.

Mikes advice worked for me too, I also had pretty much my whole POI list set to enable & warn as likewise my TT700, but sadly i dont think the XDA can quite handle all that.
Now i only warn on POI on the XDA - not show.

Interestingly enough, yesterday i was driving home as you do, with the windows media playing at the same time as having my tomtom on, and i was amazed as my POIs set to warn did pop up slightly earlier then they usually do ( sorry im really sad i usually know the exact spot on the road where they go off )

Its just strange as i would have thought having WMP on would have taken more juice out of the device? instead it gave it life and the POI come on more at the set distance rather then around 10% less.
I will have another go tonight and see if same results and then turn the WMP off tomorrow, and see if any differernce.

Cheers.

I thought the disable of POI would cure the fault, I have seen this many times with the PDA software, it doesn't seem to be as bad on the PNA devices though to be honest.

As for the device speeding up when playing Media Player at the same time, have you got any CPU overclocking software installed of perhaps the processor throttles up of its own accrd when presented with more to do, that said TomTom Navigator itself is very demanding on the hardware for processor power - Mike

Bump..

Hi guys. Sorry to drag this on but I'm having the same problem but without resolution when the POIs are turned off. I've just got a new XDA Orbit 2 and TomTom 6 now runs ever so slightly slowly when compared with my way less powerful Orbit 1 which was perfect. Its not a huge lag but its enough to get past a junction before T registers that you are on the junction.. quite annoying particularly at roundabouts where it gets itself in a right mess.

On the Orbit 1 I could select internal antenna but that option has gone with the Orbit 2 and I have to use Other NMEA, com 4 etc. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Can you check and confirm the following:

Go to Change Preferences/ Enable_Disable POI and de-select any POI that are selected, do this for everything listed including the speed cameras if installed.

The software will enable the POI files when you install them by default, so you have to disable them to prevent the screen refresh rate problem, I have an Orbit 2 and have to say mine doesn't have this problem at all - Mike

Another suggestion is to go to Start/ Settings_System tab and select Memory_Running programs, if there are a whole load running in the back ground select Stop All then launch TomTom and see if it performs better.

Sorry if I am telling you things you already know, but it is better to start with the basics at times, WM5/ 6 doesn't necessarily close applications fully when you exit them, it stupidly leaves them running in the background consuming processor power and battery life - Mike
