having some problems with memory cards in my One v2. When i put a card in i always get the animation of it coming out of the unit and the red cross thru it. have tried 3 different cards with the same result.

i tried reformatting (both in the PC and with a panasonic card formatter).

the weird thing is, if i put the card in when the unit is connected to TomTom Home, then the s/w can see it, but as soon as i disconnect i get the red icon again.

anyone got an idea what i am doing wrong? is there something i should do before inserting the card into the One?

thanks

Steve

Welcome to the forum, have you coppied the entire contents of the original card to the new one?
If you have done the above it is possible the cards read speed in insufficiant for TomTom to use it, we only recommend the use of good quality high speed cards to prevent this from occuring, what makes and speed of card have you tried? - Mike

hi
thanks!

actually there is nothing to copy is there? i am about out of storage on my One, so wanted to put a card in to boost the memory. or should i copy everything that is on the internal storage to the new card?

i tried 3 cards: a Nokia one that came with a phone, an Integral one i swiped from my digital photo frame and a PNY one that i just bought.

is it tricky to get a compatible card? I looked on the tomtom site but it didnt give much help.

I understand the Ones can only read from either the internal memory or the card. Therefore, you need to copy EVERYTHING from the internal memory to the same folders on the card for it to be read - the internal memory is ignored if a card is present.

Home does many weird things so I would not bother about what is happening when connected to the PC for fault fixing purposes.

I stand to be corrected just in case. Confused

hmm, i dont think any of these cards are high speed versions, they are just bog-standard ones. does that mean they are too slow?

Gerry, you are correct the TomTom One devices with internal memory AND SD slot will boot from either the internal memory when SD card is inserted, or with a card in the slot they will boot from the card. If you don't have the software and maps on the SD card the device won't do anything other than display the card error when switched on with a blank card inserted.
If you are running low on internal memory space look at removing some of the foreign voices as this can save upto 50MB - Mike

thanks guys, that fixed it! It does seem that the One V2 can only use one memory at a time.

thanks
