I am considering swapping my Mio 520T for a TomTom 920T, my Mio warns me when I am over the current speed limit, will the TomTom do this.

Thanks in anticipation
Mke

My Mio Says "You are over the speed limit", better than a bleep or similar Thanks for the reply.

Not having a 920, I can't say for sure but it could be possible to download your own sound file or use text-to-speech if you want a different warning to the standard sounds. Confused

Something to bear in mind though is that the data on the maps are not very accurate and so you should NEVER rely on them to warn you about going over the posted limit.

I wouldn't personally change devices just on this one function though.

Yes, as you've already been told, there are three ways of doing it. First, you set the TT to show your speed at all times.

1. TomTom Sound effect (about a dozen, bleeps, cuckoos, etc).
2. Type your own "You are over the Speed Limit". This will only work if you use the Computer Voice.
3. Put your own sound file in there (I can't remember what format or which folder it goes in - Andy_P2002 is the expert).

A very important point was made by GerryC about not relying on it. Another point is that it only works when the 920 has the speed limit information for the road you are on AND if that information is correct. The M5 southbound from junction 22 to junction 25 shows mostly at 60mph.

The warning cuts in at 4mph over the "known" speed (e.g. 34, 44, 54, 64).
Here's a picture of the GO screen showing me travelling at 37/40 - that's 37mph in a 40mph zone. If I were doing 44, it would show 44/40 and the figures would flash on and off.

I've just checked on my Go720 and it seems you can't use the TTS voice for this warning (unless I've missed a tickbox on another page - I checked the "read aloud warnings was ticked in voice preferences).
But you can add your own recordings or audio files to the list of sounds already available, so you could have "You are over the speed limit" easily enough.
