Hi Folks,

I need to replace my aged and failing SPV c500 and I'm considering getting an XDA Orbit which I hope will also be able to take over the duties of my ipaq 5550. I have read a load of threads on here and Orbit/Artemis owners all seem pretty happy with their devices, but one thing I've never seen specifically mentioned is the speaker volume.

The volume on the ipaq 5550 is pathetic, mening that spoken instructions can barely be heard in the car, and listening to the radio is a complete non-starter.

So can anyone tell me if the speaker volume of the orbit is good enough to hear spoken directions over the radio in the car?

Thanks

Tim

Obviously it will depend upon how loud you stereo is set but the Artemis is very capable when it comes to audio levels.

I would wait a few weeks though and get the Orbit 2 or HTC Touch Cruse, its an Artemis with a face lift and more memory, faster processor and has the Touch interface to mimic the iFone a great device and one that is on my radar - Mike

Good point!

Ah, thanks, that's reassuring, I have seen a couple of adverts for amplified cradles that say the built-in speaker is quiet, but I guess they would say that...

Sounds nice, but I'm going to be getting this without a contract so I think the new one will be out of my price range for a while, that's why I'm looking at the orbit specifically.

Cheers

If you are buying the device without contract please consider the HTC Artemis P3300 which is the phone the Orbit is based upon, all the same features etc. You might be able to grab a bargain, I have seen these recently for around 240 ex VAT - Mike

I recently got one of these xda orbit phones and they are great.

I get the sound coming out quite nicely, and obviously it depends on which voice you choose that gives you the better quality of sound.

Regards
