Mia p550 Wifi seems very week

I have a Mia p550 and can only connect to WiFi if I am in the same room as a access point. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my unit?

WiFi varies from PDA to PDA and is a compromise between good range and battery life. However - place the PDA on a flat, non-metallic surface and see what strength you get when not holding it. The effectivness of the Wifi aerial in these devices is often compromised by where you hold it.

Having said that the Wifi range of my DELL AXIM (held) is better than that of my DELL 6400 laptop. (Both manage 3 brick walls though). The handheld packs in about 25ish metres away from the wireless router at home. This includes three brick walls (one is cavity wall) and a partition wall. The final (third) brick wall is the last straw. I do mean brick - not breeze-block et al - it's an old cow barn/dairy with a very strange floor plan. The house is about to get a 'repeater' wireless access point in it. the wireless router is a bog-standard BT Voyager 2100 supplied by my Broadband supplier.
