Now the Go 920 is announced, with a premium price & package, should I wait until the January sales when it will be cheaper, or would I be better off buying a Go 720, and then the US Maps and a new SD card? Can you use the internal memory and the SD card together? I will be travelling to the US in March....

I'd wait for the 920. Not only do you get more internal memory but also Assisted Satellite Navigation which will help your GPS keep up with you in tunnels and 'urban canyons'. Yes, you can use both internal and SD memory at the same time.
