From originally shipped
ID=Western_Europe.pna
716922608
705
build=1480
1.58Gb
now got
ID=Western_Europe_1GB.pna
440040529
710
build=1561
951Mb
At least I got this "latest" even if it is smaller than original. |
Franc,
Other people were getting Western AND Central Europe version 7.10
This explains partially why the new map is so small...No Central Europe!! |

Statement made by support yesterday in conversation was
"European customers when buying devices with/or maps of Western Europe include Central Europe as well.UK customers get Western Europe only".
This should be easy to confirm ie are there any UK sourced devices that have had updates that are Western and Cental Europe.
(be careful though devices from some uk suppliers (pixmania etc are sourced from europe so will muddy the issue) |

I live in Germany and just checked my TomTom Profile where it also shows Germany (although Language is English), and I still only got Western Europe (1GB).
I also bought my 720 from Pixmania!
Ref the previous post - the detail on the map explains the size, as there are two versions of the WE map: roughly 1.7GB and 1.0GB - both v710!!
There is also a W&C Europe map listed as 1.7MB size, although the description is 2GB
I am waiting for a response from TT Support about my downloaded Map version... |

Question still remains: What has happened to the quality of the Western Europe map if they have compressed it from 1.7GB to 900 MB? If the qualilty has been decreased, which I suspect, I might be better off staying with the 705 map. I haven't asked for the Eastern Europe map, I'm only asking for an update to the WE map I have in my unit today. |

At least from Pritchs' results it appears TomTom speak with forked tongue!
I think the order of the day must be to to back up everything separately and fully ie original config and now updated "1Gb" config and any other downloaded map guarantee map that may come your way if your lucky, and store/burn the lot to dvd/cd lot till this gets sorted out |

From a first look at v710 WE 900MB, compared to my old v675 W&C Europe 1.7GB, they have taken out most of the off road features colours such as forest areas in darker green, industrial areas in grey etc. So I assume that is what would be back in again in the full size v710 maps - i.e. not essential, but nice to have
Yup - I have all of my maps backed up |

Called TomTom regarding this and have confirmed that the 906Mb map is incorrect and it should 1.6Gb. Suggested that I delete the downloads directory and try again, if the 900Mb version is still offered to then call them. |

Is anyone else still getting "Internal Server Error" after downloading, or am I the only one? |

RE -710.1561 909Mb download -if you use explorer to look at the map file it does not contain speech files compared to original 705.1480 map file, this is probably where some of the space saving has come from and why on my 720 at least, means you get an error when trying to use "NAVIGATE TO SPOKEN ADDRESS" option.
Apologies if this post is drifting off topic |

Too late now as it's on its way to my mate who wanted it all bought and set up/updated etc.
I'm sure he can live without the green/brown fields & blue water though.
Hopefully he won't miss (or wont want/need) the Navigate to Spoken Address feature if that's now missing.
Bigfoot47... are you saying this now actually no longer works because of the missing cspeech files?
I've noticed the 177Mb of cspeech.dat files have gone from the v710 map although there's actually only one for GBR (17Mb) anyway. |

franb-Am not 100% sure- have thrown question back to TomTom support who requested a screenshot of the updated mapfile (which caused me to check the old one, as they obviously want to see the differences themselves)
Will post reply when and if i get one,it is annoying if we are going, unknowingly, to lose functionality with updates, if you use them or not.May mess about copying speech files over to map files from original if response takes time, but this could get messy. |

Copying- csspeech_GBR.dat from original 705.1480 map file to 710.1561 map file allows voice recognition to start up but results are appalling compared to original set up so reckon some other files are possibly missing as well or this dat file is not suitable for upgrade.Good job i have the day off!! |

I updated my ticket with the comment about the wrong map along with the screenshot of the home software. |
