So either TT has downloaded a fix yesterday when I connected to TT Home2, which I believe is highly unlikely, or it is possible that speed cameras are causing the problem.
Today I have been in North Yorkshire where there are no cameras. As I have both TT cameras and Pocket GPS cameras on my TT I usually get two warnings (except for mobile positions which TT ignores) and today I have only had Pocket GPS warings for the mobiles. As I said before it has behaved perfectly.
I am now about to delete TT cameras from TT and see what happens tomorrow. Wish me luck. |
I also disabled the TT speed camera warnings, and just left the PGPSW ones on.
I used it for about an hour or so yesterday, and it didn't crash once.
This is the second time now I've managed to use it without crashing.
So I think the general advice would be to disable the TT speed camera warnings and keep active POIs to a minimum like I have. Certainly until TT release a fix anyway.
Hope this helps. |

I never experienced a crash or re-boot, but the first thing I did was to remove the TT Speed Cameras, a 7 mile drive was enough to prove to me that the installed cameras they supply simply were not up to the job so off they came.
It really would be ironic if it is proven their camera warnings and database mess up the device in this way - Mike |

Mine hasn't crashed for the last 2 trips out, and I have left the TT speed camera alerts on, but I have not added any POIs.

Today it went blank, I prodded the screen and the display came on, it stayed like this for about 8 miles then it unfroze and carried on as normal.
Very strange.
I need that new Tomtom update now! |

If I bought another unit I'd go for the Blaupunkt Travelpilot:

I'm becoming more optimitic by the day by the latest postings - at the end of the day the units are at the mlimit on memory ability, but as i generally don't have more than 6 or 7 POI categories enabled at a time then i think if i buy one i'll be OK.
So UK version at £127 or Europe at £145 ?? - i wonder which has the most spare capacity when at the factory default settings? Anyone know the answer ??
As to a solution, well TomTom aren't going to download more memory to the devices, so i assume they'll try to squash some of the files down a bit ??
I suppose the safe bet is still the One XL !! - best i can find these for is £159 GB / £181 Europe |

Hi All,
I too have had the rebooting problem. It first occured once week ago Wednesday & then three times the following day (twice in the morning & once in the afternoon). It sounds like there might be light at the end of the tunnel though if an update is forthcoming. This device is ideal for me as I only really need it for leisure use, I don't need an all singing, all dancing one.
I will, however, report the fault to Tomtom so that they are aware of the numbers who are affected, I would urge anyone who reads this & who is experiencing the problem to report it so they get a more accurate reflection of the number of units affected.
For the record I have the VisitEngland/Britain POI download on my device.

Sadly my TomTom One Europe Third Edition is now also exhibiting this behaviour. Initially I had thought I had a good unit, but it's frozen while in the middle of a route twice now "At the roundabout take..." what, take what?! It seems entirely random whether it recovers and remembers the route or not (although I would be interested to see if it's just forgetting it on "Navigate to" and remembering it on "Plan route".) Today's crash it recovered and continued giving directions, although the password entry screen of course came up so I had no visual instructions until it was safe to pull over and enter that.
With regard to what's running, standard Jane voice (no voices other than what came with it installed), TT speed cameras trial, about 2 POI categories. In answer to an earlier question mine came with approx 20mb free space out of the box. The routes I've been running today have been 45 minutes tops, and it did sucessfully navigate to Wales and back, so that doesn't seem to be a huge factor. Will try disabling the TT speed cameras (as they don't seem much cop anyway), but I think I had a freeze before I got these working anyway...
At this point in time I'm debating whether I should return the unit or await a software fix. Finding it hard to think that they could have broken so many units in the hardware given the amount of experience they have... |

I'll give it a few days then consider taking mine back. I bought it while I was away from home and I'm going back to the town next week.
I suspect it's an issue with the hardware drivers that only manifests under load or low tide (low memory). |

Okay, I have basically done a clean install, deleted all the Tom Tom speed camera database files, ensured I have not downloaded any additional Tom Tom POI's or Enjoy England POI's and disabled any Mapshare updates. The only thing that I have done is downloaded the QuickGPS Fix file. I don't know if this will make any difference but I'll test it out at the week end and let you all know how I get on. If it works without freezing I'll then put the PocketGPS World speed camera files onto it and see how we go from there.

Let us know how you get on and if it has the desired effect- I live/drive in London so there are speed cameras every few yards

Well, I don't believe it!!!
TT has now worked perfectly for 3 days, roughly 7/8 hours a day without a fault. I have also gone back to my favourite Joanna Lumley voice
So is it because I deleted the TT cameras, or that I have not marked any map alterations, or have TT downloaded a fix when I connected to Home2 the other day. (There was an unidentified item downloaded)
I am now starting to get my confidence back in my TT device.
Hope it keeps on working. I will now commence using Mapshare. Hope this does not screw it up.
Will let you know. |

I find that it doesn't have problems when you drive around with no route planned.
So it's suffers under strain. |

So TomTom is suffering from stress?
Now it knows how we felt using maps and A to Zeds. |

Quote: | Actually I think it is dyslexic. Just as you come up to a junction or roundabout, TT decides that it doesn't really know which way to go, so shuts down leaving you to decide. Then when it has rebooted Sharron Osbourne tells you to "Turn around asshole".
Just what you need. |
Or was I correct earlier? |
