Just dropped onto this and decided to have a play, found easiest way to access the f20 files is just to pop the micro SD card into an adapter and shove that into my memory card reader, seeing as my PC wont USB to my f20 (I have dodgy onboard usb, hates everything)

Anyhow, doing that you can edit the strings for the on-screen prompts, just a text file on the card, one for each language.

I had thought soundforge would have loaded the .dat file, buit it only works down to 8 bit.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the support,

Just to clarify, this is working for the N20 and I can create voice packs ease.
I just need some decent voices to try on the N20 and get the utility going with the other navman's iCn/520/530/6xx/7xx

As you say, the navman volume is a real problem. They need a better speaker. Or a small external speaker that plugs into the headphone jack for better sound.

I think the tomtom wins on the volume front, its far superior.

Thanks,
Warren.

It was interesting to see what you did with your N20.
Is this possible do you know with an F20 ?

Hello,
excuse me for my improved english..
I have extract from my navman the voice file "it_f_5.dat", then I have open the file in a hex editor and trim the data from addr 0 up until the RIFF4 string of bytes and now the file can be renamed to a .wav and play it on windows.
How I can do to split the .wav into individual samples using the dat files from the navman, change the samples with my own, converts all the uncompressed files back into a single .wav, and finally rebuilds the .dat file? which programs I must use?

thanks for reply
regards

satbloke would it possible for you to send me a copy of your utility for the n20 please?
My Dad has this unit and is interested in changing the voice if possible.

Cheers,
Colin
