|
|
Hi
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I had my first TOMTOM V3 yesterday!!
I have downloaded the POI information from this website.
I have a zip file called POI.zip downloaded that contains a POI's file. How do I get this information onto my TOMTOM ONE GB V3 ?
I have tried TOMTOM Home software and install to TOMTOM option but it says no TOMTOM content found on your computer ?
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks for your help! |

Unzip the download to reveal the POI files, each POI category will comprise of an ov2 file (the data) and its coresponding bmp file (the icon).
Use Windows Explorer to copy all the ov2 and bmp files to the map folder of your device. Switch on the TomTom and go to Change Preferences/ Show POI on map and make sure the POI files are selected, and/ or use the Warn When Near POI option to get the device to let you know when you are close to a POI you have installed (this later option is what people use for setting up the speed camera database warnings), but it can be employed for any POI Category you want.
Please make sure you have a full back up of the unit BEFORE doing anything like this - just in case - Mike |

How many sub-categories? And are you combining the sub-categories into one file?
Sorry for all the questions, but we need to know what you are trying to download, because there is a problem under certain conditions. _________________ Richard

There is a limitation, when combining sub-categories, of 22. So if you needed something like Accommodation, with all of the sub-categories in one file, it has to be downloaded in 2 parts (each with 20 sub-categories) and then combined with something like POIEdit or POIConverter.
If you do a Search for 'accommodation poiedit', and Tick 'Search for all terms', there's a few Topics on the Subject already.
On the Download Page, Selecting Show Link can sometimes help. _________________ Richard

Ok, download has come down ok now, clicking on display link seems to resolve the error ?
I have unzipped the file onto a folder on my C drive. Where do I copy these files in my TOMTOM ONE V3 into the 'United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland' folder ?
TIA for all your help! |

Yes. Copy them to the Map Folder. Copy only the OV2 and the BMP Files, NOT the Folder that contains them. _________________ Richard

Can't the notes beside the "download" button be modified to mention this specifically?
It comes up so many times... |

Just in case anyone else has the same problem (POIs.zip contains a single file called POIs with no extension) I renamed the POIs and added the .zip extension. Effectively the POI files I downloaded had been double-zipped, but the second zip file had no extension.
Hope that helps! |

Thanks for the excellent tips on this thread. The only other issue I had when installing POI's on a TomTom ONE was that I didn't see the POI's until I'd disconnected the unit from the PC - i.e. they weren't initially visible in the "Operate My Device" option of TomTom Home.
I then realised I didn't need to create any POI categories - the downloaded files appear in their own category. |

Can you confirm that drive j:/ is your TomTom, and not the drive you are trying to backup to? |
