The Maps that TT produce are the same for each Device, as Lutz said in his reply. Therefore they can be used in any TT Device, except the Rider.

Just to clarify this, although the Rider comes with a NavTech map as standard it does also work with TeleAtlas maps.

TomTom support told me that provided the maps are compatible with Navigator 5 and the Go series then they will work in the Rider

I took them at their word and tried it. I now have NavTech UK map plus TeleAtlas Maps of Wesrern Europe plus TeleAtlas US all working on my Rider.

So, does this work the other way round as well: could one take the Rider Navteq SD card and use it in a Go (say a 510) interchangeably?

The 510 uses teleatlas maps ONLY. The rider can use either and the One V2 used Navteq. Not sure if the One V2 can also use teleatlas.

I have a One v2 and it is equally happy with NavTeq and TeleAtlas maps

Thanks for the replies. I've had a Rider for quite a while but just got a new 510 (being lazy by asking rather than just trying it out Embarassed ).

Now I wonder how I could easily compare the two maps in my area (Houston) to see the differences. In the very short time I have had the 510 I can tell that the TeleAtlas maps are different than NavTeq but not sure to what extent yet. What I know, is that they route quite a bit differently...

I suspect that there is not much to choose between NavTeq and TeleAtlas on the whole. Advantages and disadvantages to both.

However, I prefer TeleAtlas because, in my local area at least, the maps are more accurate and the routing more realistic than NavTeq.

You can copy the maps over and until you choose that map, it will not ask for activation, so go to click screen, change preferences, manage maps, switch map then pick the one you just installed, then he will want activation

You can use the 510 side by side with a program that uses Navteq maps. For example iGuidance. In my area (NW Hou) TeleAtlas is slightly better.

If I get the energy I could just stick the TT Rider next to the 520 and drive around I suppose. There is definitely a difference in my area though I don't know which is better yet.
