Sorry Dennis, I wasn't being "case sensitive" just saying that I followed the other sugestion Smile Anyway, although I am a silver surfer, I do like to keep trying and have got a result!!!! I noticed on TT Home that the default place to look for mp3's was on my c drive, my docs, my music. So I copied some mp3's to that folder, clicked on it in TT Home, clicked Install and now they play in TT Jukebox. So I am well chuffed with myself. I hope it helps someone else.

David

I bought a Transcend 4GB 150x SD card from these people and it works a treat.

Does anybody know if you can change the default place to look for your mp3's on TT home only all of mine are on my D partition and I would rather not have to copy them to c:/ docs/mymusic before putting them on my TT 720. Thank you. David

Using TomTom Home just go to Manage Music and click the Add button to the right of the centre panel, now you can add a folder/ drive that maps (excuse the pun) to the location of your music (you can have multiple folders mapped should you need to), I just use Windows Explorer to copy mp3 files to the mp3 folder on the SD card as I find this much easier, faster and reliable to be honest - Mike

AFAIK they don't work, I have only heard of one person who tried the 8GB card and that didn't work - 4GB is OK though - Mike

Just got a TT720... I've tried three SD cards (2 old 256mb ones and a RiData 66x Pro 1Gb) none are accepted. Maybe we should have a thread of working/non-working cards - but annoyingly, all work in my PDA/PC, so why don't any of them work in the 720...surely this is a firmware bug. I don't really want to have to go out and buy a specific SD card just to run with it.

Cheers, Rob

Found a Bytestor 2Gb one (nicked from the missus's digital camera) also gives a big red X, but then continues to boot. Photos read off it ok.

I think you'll find that the big red X means that there is no application on the SD card. It doesn't mean that there is no SD card installed or that it can't read the SD card. At least that's what is says on the TomTom website!

My 720 flashes the red X up twice when re-booting following a reset or connection to Home, then the device will boot up and it can see/ use the music files from the SD card, if you find the red X is flashing for much longer then it could be the card speed isn't quite fast enough for the device - Mike

Hmm, not exactly a clearly designed screen then.

Interesting.. I contacted TomTom support about the problem with SD cards all coming up with a red X. They told me that my unit is faulty and to exchange it.... hmm.. it would seem they don't know how their own device works...

Most PCs which are set up to try booting from the floppy disk drive first. If there is a system disk in there it will boot from it, if there's no disk it will move on and boot from the hard drive, if it finds a non-system disk it throws up a warning screen.

I guess the TT is working in the same sort of way. We know that you can boot either from the Flash memory or from an SD card if one is inserted.
But if your SD card just has mp2s or whatever and no system files, it will try to boot from it, realise it can't and move on...

Be careful with SD cards! I have found the internal memory of the Go720 is very fragile and can be easily corrupted or damaged with non compatible sd cards. If after inserting a SD card your tomtom is acting a little strangely, then the internal memory is most likely corrupt and you will need to restore it from a back-up and keep your fingers crossed. My sandisk 512mb card damaged my 720's memory permanently and even after re-formatting my tomtom then restoring a backup, I still got a red cross on the hard drive icon and the unit refused to boot with no SD cards inserted. As many people have stated before, the 720 should never have been released with so many faults and all the problems with this and poor customer support has done a lot of damage to tomtom's reputation in the market. I for one will not be buying another tomtom product or service and I certainly won't be recommending them to anyone else either.
