Google Maps relies on streaming, as it keeps maps up-to-date and the files sizes on a PDA small.

If you wanted to save it, you could do a screen capture.

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you mean .

There is something new out for the PDA that seems rather good .It's called Tracky and will allow you to download any part of a Google map and put it straight onto your PDA .The maps are automatically co-ordinated to the GPS system on your device.Once on the PDA you can zoom in or out and plot your course . Once at the web site you choose the area you want to goto whether a village , town or piece of the countryside on the Google map , you can even feed in co-ordinates in the boxes to the left of the map , hit jump and it will take you straight to the place.
You can zoom in or out on the map to get the ideal position ,then hit the export button . This downloads your google map picture [.bmp] to a folder on your drive and then upload it to your PDA .Naturally ,you need the required software on your device , but there is a working demo , but I liked it so much I purchased the product for about £20 .
Pity you cannot get the whole of the Google map on your PDA but that would be impossible {at the moment }, but at least you can download chunks of it . At present I have my town location & a holliday destination on it . Well worth checking out if you like this sort of thing .
