Do (fixed) cameras need planning permission, then?

Yes, fixed cameras need planning permission.

...but Network Rail (Rail Track or whatever they're called today) can erect pylons for their communications systems without any permission being required. There was an article in our local paper, where such a pylon was erected pretty much at the end of somebody's garden.

This is a crazy state of affairs because if you want to be environmentally friendly you need planning permissing for even a small wind turbine.

Reporting a camera as 'new' in the planning stages is a little on the premature side though isn't it...because there's nothing physically there for somebody else to verify in order to qualify for free membership

...and if a verifier drives past the submitted site and see's there's nothing there then it will likely get rejected

You must get inundated with camera updates.

I reported a mobile camera to be the wrong speed and in slightly the wrong location, but it remains unchanged on the map.

How long do you suggest members leave such reports before submitting them again?

There are 3 reasons why changes may not apear on the map:
1) you haven't had time
2) they haven't been verified
3) reports have slipped through the net and been overlooked

Obviously, you don't want to be swamped unnecessarily and so guidance may be welcomed by members.

GPS_fan - just send in a new submission as a 'change' and state that you were the original submitter but you got it wrong.

I don't think he was suggesting his submission was 'wrong', he was correcting an error in the data?

Darren is right, I meant submitting a correction to the database.

...but what I don't want to happen is to see that camera remaining unchanged and submitting change requests unnecessarily, whilst not wanting it to slip through the net.

Am I making sense?

Camera 22160 has now been updated Laughing

Camera 2520 hasn't been deleted yet - probably still waiting to be verified :D

Thanks MaFt.

Without wanting to swamp you with updates, how long do you suggest members wait before submitting a 'repeat' update for a camera if the map doesn't yet reflect an update for a particular camera?

My goodness GPS_fan they do like their cameras on Yorktown Road, don't they? Looking at the map, I make it five even after you persuade somebody to dump 2520, plus a couple of redlight ones, all within about 1/2 a mile. I always thought you seemed a bit of a lad, now those cameras prove it - you're the local tearaway and they're out to get you. Twisted Evil

Yes, unfortunately, they do like their cameras!!

If you take a look slightly to the west along Yorktown Road, there's another goodness knows how many cameras within spitting distance...

...not to mention the mobile ones in that area as well!!

Damn, you found me out!! Sad

They're not really speed cameras - they're cctv cameras to keep a beady eye on me....when I get that flaming tag off my ankle of course!!! Laughing Laughing

But security is tight because there's Sandhurst Military Academy in one direction and Broadmoor in the other....guess which one I go home to at night Wink

Thanks for all the replies, i didn't think i would get so many replies. For those members that suggest that i was desperate to get life membership...all i can say is please get a life. Confused Confused Im more than happy to pay the yearly subscription for such accurate information. I actually reported the cameras three days b4 they went up and then again as the tarmac was still sticky, so i though that perhaps i just may have cracked it. However if this proves not to be the case then i shall reach down in my deep....deep pockets Rolling Eyes with my short, short arms Crying or Very sad

Thanks for all the genuine replies....but as with any forum theres always someone sharpening their nails.... Pistol Shoot Out

Well, born and bred in Lancashire (much to MaFt's disgust on t'other side of t'Pennines Laughing), work near Sandhurst and live on the south coast (between Portsmouth and Southampton)...

...I've also previously lived in Haslemere, Godalming and Bracknell

...so it depends which of these isn't far from you - but I might well pass your house on my drive to/from work
