OK, I've got my custom POIs on my SD card. On booting my 310D, I get a message about new data on a card .. I press 'OK' - a new screen message appears:

Install this data?

Custom POIs
(/Garmin/Poi/poi.gpi)

Don't ask me again.

I press 'NO' and therefore I assume my custom POIs are being read from the card by the nuvi..right? Question

What would happen if I say 'YES' to install? Does this have the effect of overwriting my default POIs or will they be integrated with them?

If you selected YES, it would simply copy the file from the SD card onto the Internal memory of the Nuvi.

The advantage of saying NO, is that should there be a problem with the POI file causing the unit to fail to boot (this should now be fixed on the 310 with the latest firmware) you an simply remove the SD card.

Irrespective of whether or not you install them, it does not integrate them into the built in POIs, and they will continue to appear under a separate "Custom POIs" menu item.

Agree. No chance of overwriting the pre-installed POI's as these part of the mapping data.

Not very logical, I know -- but if you say "YES", it takes you to a screen where you can say "SKIP" and "Don't ask me again" -- which stops it pestering you repeatedly.
