It's just a re-compile of the current firmware with the nobbling of auto power off removed. http://www.crane.co.uk has an image called ttsystem. Just back up the tomtom and upload this file in place of the original. I have done basic testing on it and it seems fine. I'll keep the file published at least until the next firmware is released.

When you say 'the current firmware', do you mean V6.524?
Just in case some users have a different Version.

Is this to fix the same problem I had with my TT1 v2 when I upgraded about 3 weeks ago - ie when I switched off after use it restarted after a few seconds? Reset fixed it - until the next time I used it!
I reverted to the previous firmware version using a backup - no problems with that

No. It's a different issue that affects mainly the x10 series.
When the x10s came out they would randomly switch off because of a design issue with the base unit.
TT overcame this with a software fix that meant the unit would switch on, but not off, with the ignition. It still remains even though the new mount has improved.

Yes -- I could be bothered to recomile the kernel, but couldn't be bothered to walk over to the tomtom to get the firmware revision. It was late  |

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!!   It works.  It works twice. Yabbadabbadooo.  Thank you. You should get a job with Tom Tom (or not depending on with whom you wish to associate!).
I don't wish to sound ungrateful, but can you PLEASE do the same to that damned red/flashing speed limit?? (For both GO710 and GO700). I can only repay you by telling you my Albanian joke (I only know one joke).
Alternatively, if you go to the PGPSW EXPO at Sandown Park on 21st April, I'll be very happy to buy you a drink (or three). This should be good for multi drinks from TT owners the world over!

Just to update. I've driven about 250 miles today since putting that file onto my GO710, with maybe a dozen stop-starts. It behaved impeccably. Well done and thank you again Andrew.

Must admit I was surprised when the image worked. It was 4 bytes shorter than the original so I was a tad worried. Will post tools shortly to allow everyone to make their own patches for the 6.5 firmware series.
Not sure I can be of assistance with the red speed limit thing (the auto-off was an "andrew" thing and a mission rather than a pocketgpsworld thing). What was the problem? The colour or the fact that it gets the speed limits wrong? I had an idea of making an application that makes the TTGO into a simple speedometer with a very big readout that changes colour (configurable) if you are speeding. Would this sort your problem?

Oh dear, did I sound like I knew what you were talking about? "Image", "Tools", "Patches" - Doh!! Although I admit I did notice a difference in the size of it (looked at it in my zillions of backup copies and it seemed different size in several). But I didn't worry, simply took one of my backup SD cards out with me - not an option with the 910 hard disk of course.
The problem with the speed limit thing is the speed limit. It confuses the issue simply by being there (more to look at and sort the wood from the trees), then when it changes to red its colour is next to invisible and it's not reliable, indeed the unreliability is annoying. Personally, I don't need or want the limit, because I'm one of those saddoes who never intentionally exceeds the limit! Others like it, but can't read it when red.
For me, the perfect solution would be to disable the speed limit whilst still showing the speed (i.e. 30, not 30/50). If that is difficult, then changing the colour - I'd guess there's a simple entry in the "image/program" somewhere which makes it red - (someone suggested orange perhaps as a better contrast to black/deep blue background) would solve the invisibility, though not the grump against the frequent inaccuracy. But I'd put up with the flashing if the whole thing were a more visible colour. Either of these options would make you very popular on this forum (if the new "image" thing isn't already enough).

I downloaded and copied the file across . . . . . auto power up AND auto power down - brilliant.
. . . . but, I no longer have the ability to use my FM transmitter base . . . . any chance of a 6.525 version ?
