|
|
It appears I need an external antenna for my 2 year old (June 05) Go 300 as the new car (Citroen C4) has one of these "athermic" windshields.
These appear to come either at about £50 with a replacement docking gadget or without from TotalPDA for example at a lot less -about £20. I phoned to ask how the antenna plugs in because I couldn't see any socket on the TomTom 300 I have to accept ANY other input - all I can see on mine is the mini-USB input and a power input on the back of the TomTom, and then within the area which fits over the docking gadget is the straight multi-pin connector and another mini-jack labelled for 5V DC power.
From what I have been reading here I have the impression that maybe there are various versions of TomTom 300. Can anyone advise whether one of my vintage can in fact be used with an external antenna, either with or without a new docking cradle?
Incidentally when I enquired about this at the local Halfords yesterday, the sales lad said he couldn't help as that they have been stopped from selling accessories such as external antennas for Tom and Garmin systems which seems a bit odd??

Thahnks for both those comments. I've found it seems to work OK anyway when I'm on the open road away from the house, with it on the passenger seat. Also discovered that the GO fits pretty nearly into the space that's made if I take out the ashtray fitting! So I might install it there if I can get some foam to stop it rattling. |

The diagram of the power input socket on the bottom label, is actually referring to the socket above it on the back! Confusing huh?
This is the layout:

The external aerial for my 700 (which is more or less the same) came with a replacement mount and needed it. The aerial is "permanently" wired to it, NOT plugged into it. I would strongly recommend you not to get the one offered without it - if you search this site long and hard enough I'm sure you'll find posts from someone else who did it and regretted it because it was useless without the replacement mount. _________________ Dennis

Yes, I should have made that clearer....
The aerial connector on the base of the Go mates with a matching one on a replacement mouning "shoe" that comes with the external aerial.
The aerial cable is wired directly into it. |

|
|
Hi,
I have just purchased an external Aerial for my GO 300 from the Amazon link shown, I received the aerial today and it works 100% and well worth the money at a little over £16.
However, since connecting my TomTom GO 300 to the new mount, now when I switch on my car ignition, the green charge light on the TomTom comes on as before but I have to manually switch on my GO. Before with the old mount the GO started automatically, so can anyone tell me why this is, is there a way to get my GO 300 to switch on as it did before?
Thanks.

It may be a silly question, but did you plug the Power Lead into the GO, or into the Mounting Base? _________________ Richard

Hi Oldboy,
Not a silly question at all, it is pluged into the base, I know if you plug it into the GO, it works as mine is now doing.

That was the only thing I could think of. Other that a faulty Mounting Base. 8O _________________ Richard

Hi Oldboy,
I phoned TomTom and asked the question, I was told it is due to the new SW and this is how it should work. Having thought about the reply I emailed them, I got the same reply, so I said I have NOT updated my SW but changed the mount for one with external aerial connector, so how can it be down to the SW, to date, I have "not" received a reply from TomTom!
