TT2 makes iPAQ (3970) grind to a halt

I raved on about TT2 to one of my friends...must have been good as he went out the next day and bought it for his 3970.

However, he can't get it to run....

he's got a 3970, PPC2002, 128MB SD card.

Whenever he installs the program everything just goes so slow and the TT program never fully loads.

We've tried everything to clear the memory, made sure there's nothing running in thr background, even a soft reset doesn't cure it. As soon as the program is removed, eveything runs normally again. Put TT back on and it's mr slow again.

anyone else had any trouble with this? or any suggestions

Are you by any chance installing the application to the SD card? How much memory is free on the iPAQ and what make is the SD card?

There are a couple of updates from HP for the 3970 that improve aceess speed to the SD card - these are applicable even if you have the application in main memory and the maps on the SD card. Get them here:- http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/HandheldiPAQ/us/locate/71_4704.html
The SD driver update listed near the bottom gives the performance improvements; the 2.10 ROM update near the top includes that update as well as many other fixes BUT INSTALLING THAT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON THE iPAQ!!!

Easy way to test would be with the driver update first.

alas....this is the message I just got from the guy who's having the trouble..

Downloaded the sd driver update, after installation and restart I am getting error messages

1. ‘ cflashman.exe’ “cannot find cflashman (or one of its components). Make sure the path and the filename are correct and all required libraries are available”

2. ‘aflashman.exe’ with the same message

what does this mean?...thanks

It sounds to me that either he's trying to download the SD update driver and install it to the storage card (and he may have been trying to do this with TomTom Navigator) which incidently as Darren says is a big No No!

Or, he may have a very badly corrupted Pocket PC, something has screwed up in ROM. The only course of action if it is a ROM screw up is a hard reset and reinstall everything.

There isn't any rocket science to installing TomTom, just make sure you install everything to Main Memory and the Maps to SD Card. If you install everything to SD / CF card then you will have problems.

I haven't seen the flashman errors before,s o I'm not too sure what this is relating to.

Ask your friend if he followed the install instructions to the letter, i.e. did he perform the Hard Reset as instructed after installing the updates? If he did not then he should!

He followed the instructions as given and installed to the default location (which in everycase I've used it, is the ipaq memory and not the SD card). The instructions state a normal reset...I (and he) assumes that this is a soft reset..it says nothing about a hard rest.

he's thinking of going down the back-up/hard reset route but only as a last resort at the mo'

Sorry perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly, the hard reset was in relation to the cflashman.exe error. The instructions clearly state that a Hard Reset must be performed after installing the 3970 HP SD Card Updates.

If he performs the Hard Reset he should find that issue resolved Thumbs Up

so a hard rest is what is referred to as a "normal" reset??

instructions on the update site state

5. Remove the iPAQ from the cable/cradle and perform a normal reset on the iPAQ Pocket PC.

ok...I'll let him know...just seems odd to me, I would have thought that a normal reset was a soft one.

Did he install the SD Card update or the 2.10 ROM Update? The Hard Reset was in relation to the 2.10 ROM Update. Given the problems he has been having I would advise he installs this anyway Wink
