I'm an immigrant too... And I found it funny...

But onto more relevant things... I have a brand new Nuvi 660 (Arrived saturday 10/03). The only place it works is in my house... In the car, or standing next to it, standing on a hill etc, all useless... In my house, not a problem... This is in a room that can't get TV without an external BOOSTED aerial...

By "the only place it works" i presume we are talking about the TMC, I am having my aerial altered later this week by a Sat Nav specialist, so it is either lengthened or boosted, I will let you know how i get on.

Yeah, I meant the only place the TMC works...

I did find a couple of others this morning... It works half way down the slip road onto the M4 east bound at J8/9... Not at the top, and not at the bottom... Just the middle.

It works on the bridge over the Thames between J8/9 and J7 on the M4...

It works on the A4 somewhere between J5 of the M4 and where it (The A4) goes over the M25...

I got 9 messages out of that lot... 6 from the J8/9 sliproad... 2 from the M4 and one more before I got into work...

It was easy to monitor given I was sitting in an instant carpark all the way... Rather sadly none of the messages I got seemed to include the stationary & stop/start traffic on the A404(M) or M4 this morning...

Or not... Nothing on the way home...

I'm thinking the v4.00 firmware for the GTM is broken still. Rather severely...

I got nothing all the way home from Heathrow to Maidenhead this evening... Once at home, I manged eventually to get the TMC to lock on channel 187 (Boy that's a pain. Hitting TEST waits till it changes before it stops seeking). After a while of saying Mode 7 (Does anyone know what the modes actually mean?) And showing various errors codes, it got 10 messages... Nothing for the M4 I'd just been crawling on... But that may just have been because the unit is still crap at picking up the signal.

Hamish.

Hamie

Might be worthwhile trying to reposition your TMC or asking Garmin for a replacement as I drove on the Western section of the M25, M4 and M40 this evening and picked up the traffic all the way - 13 pages of it at times so Ver 4.00 definitely works for me

Not only try re-positioning the aerial lead on your TMC - but try connecting it to an external aerial - car radios are very bad at receiving radio signals in the FM band inside a car.

Inside or outside the car makes no difference... I've tried the antenna vertical and horizontal. Horizontal is a wee bit better (Higher signal rating anyway).

I think the GTM21 and/or the firmware is just broken. Perhaps they should have tested it (The design) before selling it...

I'm having exactly the same issues as Hamie - M4, A404 Sad I think its just poor reception

I can get traffic information in my back bedroom, unfortunately it doesn't lock on automatically, I have to do a manual search.

Once locked on I get the traffic but as soon as I move the aerial and try and move downstairs no updates.

Well, having got 2 messages one morning, and then 7 the next morning, I am now getting 170 odd messages before I leave my village (a first!). However, as soon as I head cross country towards Hertford (and hence change to a new radio station area), my traffic unit loses all traffic, and never recovers. Irritatingly, it never gets any traffic on the way home, even when back in the village.

So, I wonder if either:

a) There is a network outage in the Hertford area (although there wasn't last week when I used my other traffic unit).

b) The v4.00 firmware can't cope with you changing areas.

Even with my aerial splitter and amplifier - I don't get a blue diamond for about a mile from my home whereas in the earlier firmware versions I was getting traffic almost from my home.

This morning I've driven from Hampshire along the coast to Kent and then up round the M25 to Heathrow. For safety sake I'm not checking constantly but when I looked I was getting pages of traffic, so assuming that I am changing transmitter coverage areas this doesn't seem to be an issue. Can't comment on poss Hertford outage.

Hamie, as you can see from many of the contributors here, the GTM21 and new firmware clearly works perfectly so I think that you need to look at antenna placement or return the unit for a replacement.

I've got a Range Rover with a heated front windscreen. And Have a hard time getting any kind of signal on my 660. I was thinking about the aerial solution, and hear lots of people mention about attaching it to the car aerial, but no one ever says how Smile. Could someone give instructions for this or point me to a website where I can find the instructions?

Thanks,

Jas

I must have missed the all those GTM21 & new firmware postings saying it works perfectly...

I've had messages too... Sadly about 5 over half an hour, and only in certain spots when crawling (~10km/hour) in traffic...
