I feel like I'm going mad. Just spent the past 3 hours looking on the net and this forum for help and nothing Sad . Basically, I performed an update and now when I switch my TT1 on I get a white screen saying please wait and an egg timer. This won't go on it's own. I've tried resetting using the reset hole but this just switches the unit off. (Which is good as the on/off switch isn't responding). I'm not that technical so if someone can help me I'll be eternally grateful.

Try holding the reset switch down for 30 seconds - then see what happens - Mike

:D Same happened to me. I deleted all the info on my memory card via a reader and took the data from within Tom Tome Home Backup copied and pasted back onto the card. The unit then worked but I still could not update correctly and had to redid that twice untill I gave up and did the following. I finally uninstalled Home and deleted everything that was left behind. I then reloaded it and tried again. This time I downloaded and installed correctly by WAITING, you should see it stating its flashing the tom tom, then Wait while the Quick GPS fix is loaded I did use the disconnect button on home. I did not unplug the unit until it asked me if I wanted to connect it to the PC, said no and then unplugged it. Works fine now! Thumbs Up

There's a very recent post somewhere, where TomTom advised someone to delete a folder (which someone else said was just "full of .mac files") and then to reset again. This worked for two people.
Sorry, I'm damned if I can find the post now.... Embarassed

Thanks, Oldboy, I was sure it was you, but I'd only searched for your posts in the TomTom section, and searching for "mac" gave the results you'd expect!

What a stupidly simple answer!!! Why do tomtom even bother to put that folder there in the first place??!!

Thanks Oldboy - this has been driving me nuts for the past hour :x

PostPosted: Sat Feb 10, 2007 4:47 am    Post subject: FOUND A FIX! Reply with quote

I have found a fix for this problem on a EU based GPS forum. I have also PERSONALLY VERIFIED that it works. (also verified that the HOME installer is doing something to break things during the auto-update...)

sorry if I'm breaking any forum rules in posting this, but I figured it was important. (I know this has been driving me insane for days) :D

1. open your SD as a removeable drive on the desktop.
2. DELETE all files that are NOT in a folder.
3. grab this file from the tomtom site

-- please note I have written [dot] where you need to place a period in the URL, as this forum won't let me post a true URL (or I'm not smart enought to figure out how)--

(tomtom one version1) - www[dot]tomtom[dot]com/updates/ttoneupd545[dot]zip
(tomtom one version2 (newer model)) - http[colon]//62.250.16.51/customers/TTOnev2/ttOneNE[1].650.7390[dot]exe

4. run the installer - DO NOT use tomtom HOME!
5. power up, and enjoy!

this runs a slightly older version of the application, but seems to be fine. for fun, you can then hook it to tomtom home, run the auto update and watch it break again! Wink

It's the TTN Tools Folder.

Much quicker than re-installing, and maintains your current version.;)

Is this a software problem within the tools folder, or are you just deleting unnecessary files to free up space on an overloaded SD card. If so, the real solution would be a bigger card. I used a 2Gb card when I first bought my Tom Tom Europe (as part of my back-up regime) and I have never had a problem.
