Hi Guys,

I am waiting for my free V9 upgrade DVD from Garmin to arrive in the post. BUT I am still trying to get my head around what actually is upgraded....Do I understand correctly that if the Quest2 is delivered with v8 installed in the fixed part of the memory that it will ALWAYS have v8 as the base maps. When I get the v9 maps these will have to be loaded into the accessible part of the memory and then the respective v8 maps will need to be deselected in the base set??? Surely there must be some way of downloading the v9 map set into the fixed portion of the memory and then the Quest will ONLY have v9 as the base set ??? When v10 comes out next year your Quest will still have v8 PLUS... the extra v10 maps in memory. Also, I have a feeling that there is not enough memory space to download ALL the v9 maps and that one would have to download only the map sets that you would want to travel through???
If one sent the Quest to Garmin they must surely have a "backdoor" key sequence to download into fixed memory. Are they just protecting us plebs from corrupting our mapsets ??

Cheers
Adrian

The v9 update for the Q2 will overwrite the preloaded v8 maps. This might decrease the free memory for loading other maps (as has happened in the states).

Thanks for your answer Robert. I am still abit confused by your comment in the FAQ for the Quest on your website though...

FAQ: Can I change the Quests basemap?
Your answer is no.

Do I understand then that that is not quite correct as when you upgrade from CN v8 to v9 you are actually changing the basemap ??

The basemap is the crude non-detailed map you see when there are no detailed maps loaded. You might check Iceland, Morocco or any african country. ;)

City Navigator maps are preloaded *detailed* maps.
