|
|
Hi,
Looking into getting a PDA mount for the car (possibly Carcomm), primarily for a future sat nav set-up.
Given the voice output as part of the navigation (as well as any mp3s stored on the Ipaq), is there any way possible of wiring the PDA/car kit into the stereo so that any audio outputs mute the stereo and plays through the speakers.
I guess the answer is 'no' but you never know...
I have a Nokia car kit already installed which does the above with my Ford stereo but I don't know enough about PDAs.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Damian |

It's pretty tricky to feed PDA audio into your stereo, particularly when, like me, you also have a phone car kit wired up.
Take a look at this thread for more information - particularly the posts by Darren and I.

David,
Thanks for the reply - it looks like the Qubit products may be the answer (price dependent), although I can't seem to access the full Datasheets on them.
I'll wait until Darren issues a report...
Thanks again,

We've mentioned these before, they are illegal in the UK as they transmit on a band that requires a licence. The UK distributor was forced to withdraw them as a result. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Looks like I got my Arkon one before they withdrew them.
I think you are still able to get the one from Merconnet as they ship them direct from States |

There are suppliers who will ship but Ofcom (who regulate the radio spectrum) are infamous for coming down hard on those caught flouting the rules.
Granted it's unlikely that you would get caught but is it worth having your equipment confiscated together with a huge fine? _________________ Darren Griffin |

What about one of those jack plug to cassette cables used for portable CD players to connect to a car cassette? |

Yup, they work fine If you have your PDA playing your .mp3's as well as Nav then the sounds are mixed nicely and output through your stereo.
The Rolls Royce solution though is a Qubit Amp. Read the review here. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Surely this isn't designed for stereo music reproduction and the OP would be better finding a way of routing music through his in-car stereo?
I would recommend the cassette adaptor as cost effective and result in much better sound than FM transmitters which as someone said earlier are illegal anyway.
Having said all this, I only use the adaptor for feeding music from my IPod. My GPS is plenty lound enough. |

The original Qubit PDA Amp was Mono output but they now offer a Stereo Output version. _________________ Darren Griffin |

ordered an AudiaX Audia-X Digiana FM Wireless Transmitter off ebay (it was cheaper than the link above, and gets posted from the UK). I'll let you know how I get on with it. |

Don't most of these devices mean that you cannot listen to the stereo and navigation at the same time? It would be good if any of them mixed them in. |
