A friend is thinking of getting camera alerts for his 500, but he is not sure which ones to get i.e. TomToms of pocketgpsworlds.
I use the latter, has anyone used TT and what is the difference if any.

TT's own are less up to date, have FIXED warning distances and no possibility to change voice warnings.

No-brainer!

Thanks thebinman.
I guessed it would be something like that.
I'll have to show my friend how to install the pocketgpsworlds ones.
I must admit that each time I install the updates (I only update every couple of months) I have to really get the brain cells working, the last time I really messed up.

If you use TomTom HOME it's a very simple process. Download the file, extract to the HOME downloads folder, launch TomTom HOME and click Install. Couldn't be much easier Smile

Do you only go out driving every couple of months? The pocketgpsworld cameras database was updated three times in November and twice in December, all with changes - new cameras added, old ones deleted. Practice a bit more so that it isn't a hassle, then get every new update as soon as it happens.

Both, we have a TomTom HOME version of our database.

Darren.
Sorry to be a pain but if I get my mates install wrong he'll kill me.
Will the pocketgpsworld database install directly using TT HOME. I ask as I've never done it that way.
My mate has not got TT HOME yet, so I've got to have all the answers, plus the fact he's not to PC confident. If I show him how to do and its straight forward he should be OK.

Yes, download the HOME version
Extract to the Downloads folder in HOME
Connect the GO, select the POI file which will now be visible
Select INSTALL

That's it

Sounds like you are quite happy with the old way (dragging and dropping the files using Windows). If so, I'd carry on downloading the ov2 version and doing it like that (I hate "Home").
If nothing else, you'll be able to look more confident when you show your mate how to do it! Laughing

Print the How-To instuctions .
Or at least the 4 lines from Darren above.
Work thru with your m8 present, or even at the controls.
TIP:
I always check Enable/Disable POI on my TomTom as a habit after installs - all ticked?.
They will need 'Warn when Nears' adding from Preferences -- Manage POI's as usual.
Spoken Alerts - don't forget the ogg files - they need adding the drag&drop (ov2) way into his map folder.
