no of course u didnt.. but u did bring up the safety factor.. the implication that having a tomtom enhanced your safety..

some including me just felt the need to point out it could do exactly the opposite..

its not an unsung safey factor just a usefull aid to navigavition when u cant see where u are going.. he he he

Exactly... The point I was trying to make, that you may have missed, jeezzzz Badger...is that anything that makes you feel more confident when driving in fog, is likely to make you drive just that bit faster than you would have done otherwise.

I am not sure that it is a safety feature ... but ... I do use it as Bodger says to anticipate for example where I should hold back from slow traffic on single lane carriageways so as to lull them into thinking I not bothered then blasting past when i see the road straightens.

Also I use it on unfamiliar roads when avoiding the M6/M5 madness to blast down the road and when the camera poi goes off then I slow down.

That's great if you want to stay at their house overnight. Laughing

having all those false speed camera warnings might make folks drive slower.. but then again it might make em go faster in between to make up for it.. he he he

still safey enhancer or not its a usefull device.. bless it..

I think some of you have missed the point somewhat. I did not suggest that looking at TomTom would tell you whether the road was clear or not.

If you want that facility its called radar and it will cost you a darn sight more than a few hundred pounds.

Or buy a Merc with the inbuilt distance controller.

When I first got a TomTom I found I was using the route as sort of pace notes. It meant I was driving into bends with more speed than normal as I knew how sharp it was. Of course what doesn't show is the horse/cyclist/tractor around the corner.

Fortunately I came to my senses before anything happened or even a new miss.

Depending how you use them, SatNav's can improve or reduce the safety factor.

There's actually been some research done, (but I'm damned if I can remember where I read it), about how we tend to obey authoritative voice commands without thinking.

I've nearly gone through a red light because my TomTom has confidently told me to "Turn left", but hasn't said "Wait until the lights turn green first, you idiot!!"
Sounds stupid, but when you're tired and just want to get home....
I bet it's not just me either! 8O

That's why I prefer a male voice on my satnav, if I was given instructions by a female (read wife), I'd have to follow her directions. Smile

Only joking, don't mean to offend any of the stronger sex Laughing
