Hi all, can anyone please help me find a way to change the name of a map I have on my Rider? I'm currently using 2 Great Britain maps (TeleAtlas and NavTeq), The latest Navteq Western Euro map and a selection of older TeleAtlas European country maps all on a 2gb SD card. My problem is that when I "switch map" I have a choice of 2 maps named "Great Britain" which I would like to tell apart. Is there a way of renaming one of them to maybe "TeleAtlas GB" to make life a little easier when swapping?

Merry Christmas :D

p.s. there's bound to be a lot more SatNav systems on the road after Christmas. Beware of the "New SatNav" driver, his/her mind might not be fully on the road.
p.p.s. now there's a thought, Idea a "motorcyclist proximity alert/warning" TomTom take note

I've never tried this myself but you could try just changing the name of the Map folder. (Don't forget what it WAS called though, in case you need to change it back again).

P.S. I find the Redlight cam warning is quite good, but it needs to be extended to ALL traffic lights. It warns me that a motor bike is going to squeeze past, probably bash my wing mirror and then push in at the front of the queue. Supreme Angel (Ducks and runs for cover! Laughing)

thanks Andy, I tried that earlier with no success. The maps are actually in differently named folders i.e. "Great_Britain-Map" and "Great_Britain" but they are both called "Great Britain" on the "switch map screen"
They do seem to keep their place in the list of maps available on the "switch map screen" so I do know which one is which but it would be nice see a difference.

thanks again Smile

Do you really NEED all the maps on your card?

If not just delete the map folders you don't want/need.

You can do it by editing the .pna file. You will find that, at the moment, both are probably called Great_Britain in the ID= line. I have the TA and NT maps on one SD card and have appended them _TA and _NT accordingly.

hi binman, thanks for the reply.
the maps I have installed are....
TeleAtlas GB map v562.0
NavTeq GB map v612.0
NavTeq Western Euro map v660.1256
+ various TeleAtlas Euro maps
The TeleAtlas maps have much more/better detail re. rivers and sideroads but the Navteq should hopefully have newer roads added (but very few rivers and sideroads/tracks).
I suppose the thing to do would be to bin the earlier NavTeq GB map and just use the TeleAtlas GB map and NavTeq Westwern Euro map.

BUT, there again, a man shouldn't need a reason NOT to do something, if it's possible to do it, he will try to do it Laughing Out Loud

Hi Tim, you were right, both map folders have a .pna file named Great_Britain.
I've changed the names to what you suggested but now they don't show at all on my "switch map" screen. You recommended that I "edit" the .pna file but I can't see any way of changing it other than "renaming" it. Am I missing something? I've changed the names back now so I'm back to where I started. now you might realise why I chose my username Laughing Out Loud
Confused

You can open the .pna file with Notepad. Right click the .pna file and choose 'Open with', then choose Notepad. You need to edit the first line in the .pna file, not the name of it. Make the TA one

ID=Great_Britain_TA.pna

and then save it again.

Guess what you need to do to the one in the one Navteq map directory? You'll know which one you're in as the build number is also in the .pna file.
