I just got my Holux 236 from ebay as well before I read this forum. Crying or Very sad
And it's not working as it should.

I want to check its firmware or trying to check if the Holux is actually faulty. Anyway, I can't get it connect to TT5 on my palm, and I can't even connect it to GPS Viewer nor, SiRFDemo. 8O

See here:
GPS Viewer scan fail

And SiRFDemo doesn't give me the option to change the Protocol after I have choose 38400 from start up..

I hope I am doing something wrong, and hope someone can help me here.

I feel like I am have totally wasted my money getting this receiver from ebay. Crying or Very sad

Hi Boxxer -
I think you've contacted our support team already for assistance?
If you have a USB data cable & connect the receiver via that to your PC at 38400 baud you should be able to do a factory reset in Sirf Demo.
After this reset one of the first lines of NMEA data will contain the firmware version number.
If you are still having trouble connecting via bluetooth can I suggest you contact your retailer for support under the manufacturers warranty as you may have a faulty unit.
Regards,
Julie

GPSlim236. I had same trouble after a sync. in Sirfdemo. Had to buy a cable to get it working again. Anyone around Darlington needs a reset via cable let me know.

Does anyone know how to WAAS enable the device in TomTom 5? Or any other program for that matter. Tried several times but does not seem to change.

Hi Rockbyter,

There are several SiRF control programs that run on the PPC, but MMSirfSetup gives convenient control of just WAAS/EGNOS and Static Navigation.

The program switches the GPS to SiRF, sends the enable/disable command and then a command to restore NMEA. However, if your PPC uses WM5, note that mikealder on this forum has reported that WM5 appears to block the command that restores NMEA, and the GPS remains stuck in SiRF mode. He uses a TomTom3 driver (actually a complete application) to restore the NMEA.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Rockbyter,

MMSirf works fine for me on WM2003, but it looks as if your Ipaq only runs PPC2002, which presumably is missing a .DLL, or something. Maybe Lutz, or someone on another forum like gpspassion can help; or perhaps even "Richard" at Memory Map (presumably in the USA) who wrote the program.

Alternatively, enabling WAAS using SiRFdemo (on PC) seems to work, but if you specifically want something on the PPC, then try Googling "SirfTech" or "CE Monitor" which might run with PPC2002. AFAIK, the checkboxes on "GPSViewer" do NOT work.

Whether you will actually get a significant increase in accuracy using WAAS in the UK at present is another question entirely!

Cheers, Alan.

Just got a new Holux GPSlim236 (part of a blackberry navigation bundle) and wanted to check if firmware upgrade was needed.
I installed SiRFDemo on my laptop and established a bluetooth connection.
Outputed the SW version which is:-

SW Version: GSW3.2.0PAT_3.1.00.12-SDK001P1.00d

This does not seem to corrispond to any of those version listed in this posting?

Also can you do any long term damage in SiFRDemo application, since for some reason my unit stoped working until I sent the factor rest comand
Thanks

Hi,

If you want to send data to/from a Holux 236 and a PC, then look here.

Cheers, Alan.

I received my unit today and all was fine till I plugged it in to Sirfdemo. I tried enabling waas over bluetooth between my PC and the unit. Thought this would be ok but it looks like it's killed it. Well that was till I did a factory reset and it all came back online. I've finally managed to break the unit though, don't know what happened, but I can't get a GPS signal at all, and when I connect with my palm it says 'no GPS' normally it would say 'no fix'. I tried factory reset but this is not working for me. So the cable that is used for firmware updates is the same cable needed to turn on and off certain parameters such as waas/egnos and powersave?? I can understand not updating the firmware using Bluetooth, but surely you can make simple operating function changes.

You have probably left the unit outputting SiRF data - the output needs to be NMEA mode to work - you don't say what software you are using but if its TomTom it MUST be NMEA mode for the data output - Mike

I don't use any of the software you have installed - my normal method for switching between SiRF and NMEA mode can be found Here - but that needs a PPC device, have you got access to one of those or not? - Mike

I am guessing I have a dodgy unit as the dat fix LED is on all the time, meaning it's trying to get a fix. The fact that none of the commands in sirf demo affect the unit also makes me think the things dead, even though I can still bluetooth the device.
