|
|
hi all
just got one of these for xmas off a relative and couldnt resist the temptation to get it all sorted so that when he is supposed to give me it on xmas day its all ready to go
so found this site and am willing to install speed camera database but on reading this forum seems this is problematic at the minute as it looks like no one has got it working correctly yet
with this in mind what is the speed camera database that can be subscribed from navman like
it says it will be updated monthly
ie does it have as many camera locations as this siteall help will be greatly received |

The Navman database seems OK and the warnings much improved with SP1 but they do NOT include mobile cameras so I would use both Navman's and GPSworld's!!

thanks for the reply
the database i was questioning was the one available for a subscription from navman
at
http://www.navmanstores.com/eu/product_details.php?category=Safety+Cameras&id=443
from the description i believe it has mobiles and others included but just was wondering if it had the same amount of camera coverage that this site had
thanks in advance |

Looking at that link I stand corrected. However I thought I had seen a reference somewhere that the Navman database was fixed sites only and having driven over 600 miles in the last 3 days I can tell you that there are a hell of a lot more mobile alerts with the GPSWorld database than there are with the Navman database.

I can confirm the same, far more alrets from the pocket GPS files, although I also have a snooper GPS in the car and that has camers the navman dosen't have and vise versa. I don't think any of them have the full list but the pocket GPS one sees the most complete (and the cheapest!).
I did pass camera on a long journey this weekend that wasnt in the database, but only realised this later (doh!).

You're right, Roadpilot is the supplier according to Navman
Quote: | Navman have teamed up with RoadPilot the UK's leading supplier of speed camera location data.
They employ a dedicated database team that constantly add new camera locations so that the database you use is always up to date. Even temporary cameras sited at road works are included.
|
According to Roadpilots web site they do have a comprehensive selection of cameras.. I have no personal experience of them as I prefer PGPSW cameras which are perfectly satisfactory for me both on quality and price _________________ Gee-Pee

just thought it may be a viable option as i also have a navman n20 and it doesnt look like anyone has sorted how to get the camera database from pocketgpsworld working 100% yet
and if you do get over 3 years you get it for £19 per year too
i would rather use pocketgpsworlds database just it doesnt seem like it might not work
if anyone has got it working i would love to see a guide so that i could get it installed |

My N20 has worked perfectly with the Pocket GPS database from the day I got it! In fact today I have managed to get 3 warnings per camera!!! One from the Navman database, one from the zoned Pocket GPS file and one from the single pocket GPS database, all with different home-made warning messages. If anyone needs a tutorial I'll be happy to oblige!!

Graham,
Those instructions are spot on but to get the third warning from the single PocketGPS file I opened the excel file and added 0.0001 to all the latitudes (it could have been longtitudes but it doesn't matter which). Then load the single file making sure the warning distances are different for all 3 files ie the Navman file, the single PGPS file and the zoned PGPS file. You then get 3 warnings per camera!
