NAVMAN SLEEVE - IPAQ 3970 - Tomtom 5

I have a Compaq 3970 (pwin 2003) with a Navman SE jacket. When using Memory map software I can get the sleeve to receive a signal and relay a position onto the displayed map. When i configure the jacket within TomTom 5 I do not receive a signal - or at least one that is received and displayed through the software. I have previously allowed over 2 hours for a cold fix to no avail.

I dont know what to do next.

I believe that the sleeve is a Gps 3000 variant (definately not the Co Pilot version) running the most recent driver as available c/o the Navman site and a genuine copy of TT5.

I have read somewhere that the sleeve might be pocket win 2003 incompatible - I dont know. Anyway Memory map has proved that the antenna works.

The sleeve has Ipaq GPS V2.0A on the label

Any ideas

If it says Navman SE sleeve then it is a Navman, not a Co-Pilot one. In TTN5, how have you configured the GPS? IIRC, you select other cable GPS, Navman GPS driver at 57600 . I used this sleeve on a 3970 (PPC2002) and a 5555 (WM2003). It was the Navman SmartST software which wasn't compatible with the PPC2002-WM2003 upgrade.

I've set it up to:-

Other NMEA GPS Receiver
Baud rate 57600
Navman driver

but still says 'No GPS device' and the clock is not turning

If the Navman software conflicts with PPC2002 and Pwin 2003 how does the jacket operate?

Try taking the Baud Rate back to 4800

I think that I have tried most of the baud rates - sitting outside with a mains supply to the ipaq - watching the grass grow!! - without success.

Is there anything available to 'encourage' the machine to work despite having windows 2003 installed.

Speaking to others I believe that it should work cause they have identical setups.

I have inadvertantly found that the above set up does work via the navman jacket in Tomtom.

the baud rate is set to maximum having first ensured that there are NO programmes operating in the background - via settings/memory/running applications.

Works well

I disposed of my Navman SE sleeve on eBay long since - and for decent coin. For my Ipaq 3970 one of the newer BT linked GPS pucks overs much better startup times and hugely better sat lock when in the city.
