I have had my Quest 2 for several months. Overall I have been very happy with it. My biggest complaint was slow searching for things and some minor freezing twice. I just received my CN8 NT update disc in the mail. The update was a nightmare. It installed fine on my PC but when the map was updated in the GPS unit the problems started. On power up a message "map not unlocked" appeared. I ended up calling Garmin. After 3 separate calls and two remote computer link up I was told to send the unit in for repair. I ended up deleting the install in my PC and editing the registry to remove all garmin software entries. I started from square one.
I did the map source install then updated the map and it worked. Garmins auto update tried to load the 2.80 version software into my unit also the map first has to be unlocked before updating the GPS unit. Somehow letting garmin software do everything it got screwed up. Anyway since I have CN8 NT loaded and version 2.80 software I have had zero problems with my quest2. Search is MUCH faster and no freezing issues. Redraw seems quicker also. If your updating you unit I suggest to grab any software updates first, make sure CN8 installs on your PC and is unlocked THEN update the map in your unit. Garmin customer service need help BAD. |

You are talking about the *US* CN 8 NT, right? Since all EU Quest 2's came with EU CN 8 NT preloaded... _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Hi your posting makes interesting reading, since I have had a Quest1 for 2 years and that worked perfectly if a little tight for map space, so I took the chance to upgrade to Quest2.
Quest2 Uk comes loaded with NTv9 Europe mapping and v2.80 firmware and I am sorry to say it, this is now the slowest GPS I have ever seen. The turn announcer has lost the detail (telling you to turn in 500ft, 200ft, et) and the recalculation takes in excess of 30 secs (I tried it and drove past my turn at 40mph, it took over 3/4 mile to recalculate the route).
I complained to Garmin who informed me that there is nothing they can do about performance since the unit has the same processor as the Quest1, but has to decompress masses of data and worse than that is the fact that the Quest2 is now end of life.
Frustrated and disappointed I have returned my Quest2 in favour of a NUVI 370, with Europe NTv9 and USA NTv8 preloaded and its fast. |
