Dixie68 - have you contacted Garmin and got the new "6025" car charger? This will help, although won't deal with parts of the country with little or no signal in the first place.

Mine came with the 6025. I went for a long drive up and down a couple of motorways to give the unit a chance to show me what it can do yesterday, and I've got to say I'm not impressed at all.
Fair enough it does work (intermittently) but it's no use to me in my area and I can't believe they sell this when it doesn't work properly in all areas.
So... I took it back to Halfords, got my £300 back, and bought a Tom Tom One V2 which DOES give me traffic info via my mobile phone.

All I can say to the rest of you having the same problems is take it back and get a refund - you can always buy another one when (and IF) they sort it out.
As for me, thanks for all the help but I'm off to the TT1 forum now... :D

BTW: the TT1 works much better IMHO; smoother updating of the graphics, faultless traffic alerts and NO STUPID STICK-ON AERIALS!!

Better waiting for TT One V2 Europe which has Navteq mapping. More expensive but also covers Europe.

Or TT510 with TMC antenna (when available)

I disagree - better having a system that works now and in my area. 8)

I used a TTG Classic for years before I got the Nuvi and have never had problems with the maps, and the Traffic system works great - granted you have to pay a subscription but I get enough free GPRS data a month to cover it easily. In my opinion (and some will agree, some disagree) the on-screen information is better and clearer, the ease-of-use is much better, and the traffic system just plain works! (Which is what I need it for).
Anyway, I've got rid of the Nuvi now and I don't want to hijack this thread by going off on a tangent.

Having just sold my i3 I took it's charger out of the car yesterday and replaced it with the charger that came with my new nuvi 360.

Guess what - TMC12 doesn't work any more. I had got used to where it would pick up a signal on my way home - it was at the same point on the journey each time. Now it doesn't pick up a signal at all. Nada.

The charger is p/n .....21 and I read some people are using one ending with...25.

So the old i3 charger worked, but the charger supplied with the nuvi doesn't.

Garmin now sending me a "new" charger, but I can't help but think it will just take me back to where I was with the i3 charger, i.e. intermittent signal. Crying or Very sad

I have just bought a nuvi 310D (from hafords!). Took it out or its first major outing today......

Routing...OK
Recalculate....OK (quick)
GTM12....Hmmm!

Well I got no traffic alerts! Decided to have a look on the net, and found this thread, well I've read alot of it. I plugged the Nuvi into my laptop, still no alerts.

What do you think would be my best course of action??

Power Supply??

How do i get the new power supply?

My in car ones serial number is 10R-02 6017

I noticed someone suggested going back to halfords to see if they can get a new charger......sounds unlikely to me! But anyone had any luck?

Cheers

You definitely need a new cigarette power supply from Garmin, if you phone them they will send you another one and its code will end 6025.

Please post some messages when you get one and how you get on with it.

Could I ask everyone who is partaking in this thread to visit their profile and set the location they live at, I am not talking about a full address - simply town or nearest city, even a county is better than nothing.
This will allow any user to see if there is a specific area problem from the number of posts in this thread - be nice to see if there is yet another North/ South divide! - Mike

Went to Suffolk for a few days this week. Traffic reports were largely present around the Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth areas, but cut out in North Norfolk and South Lincolnshire, and of course were not present when I arrived back home in South Yorkshire. No signal at home since early August! I have the 6025 charger.

RAC Live - operated by RAC Trafficmaster Telematics (RTT), a joint venture between motoring organisation RAC and driver information provider Trafficmaster - will be working in partnership with three of the UK’s largest commercial radio broadcasters – GWR Group, Chrysalis Radio and Capital Radio and the broadcast service provider NTL in order to provide drivers with suitably equipped vehicles with reliable value-rich traffic information.

May help you with some of the reception blackspots!

Thanks for the links to the radio stations.

As I live at Bristol and drive around the Bristol, Bath, Swindon and Gloucester areas for a living I would expect to get a decent signal, living and working as I do in an area surrounded by stations on the list.

This prompted me to send an email to the technical department at GWR Radio to see if they are aware of the problem and to ask if there is anything we can do, as users, to help ourselves, e.g. get a roof ariel, extend the ariel etc.

I'll let you all know if I get a reply next week.

I have played with connecting the GTM12 to my car antenna and to be honest it made the reception worse.

I have the wire antenna up the side of front screen and across the top of the screen in a 7 shape and get a signal of 11 on the TMC menu at home in the drvieway, around my local area (North Notts) this varies between 12 & 7 and I get good reception of messages and few errors

I stripped the last inch of the antenna and solderer on a car radio adaptor, in the driveway the signal dropped to 7 and out and about as above it was beween 8 and 2. Lots of errors and about half the messages as normal

I am sure this is because I connected the unscreened singal antenna lead rather than cutting it back as close to the TMC and attaching coax from there. but to be honest I do not want to wreck the TMC unit if I am wrong and I still end up with a worse signal than with the supplied antenna!

Hi,

As per my previous notes I advised I was going to Italy and took my Nuvi 360 and GTM 12 to test signal availability. We travelled between Caserta, North of Naples to Paestum , South of Salerno but stayed primarily in Sorrento area. Signal strength perfect all the time which surprised me bearing in mind mountainous regions.
On the Traffic Info screens it advised new messages I've not yet seen in the UK, like "severe delays - people in road!"and "weather warning - heavy rain".
I would not recommend driving in this region at all. They are mad mad drivers. 8/10 cars are damaged in some way or other and road rage is quite common. Road signs are poor and traffic congestion is sooo bad. I've driven alot in France and have no problems at all.
Nuvi was really good at helping at critical junctions - even main roads don't always have signs or lane markings and sometimes no traffic lights either - a real free for all. I parked up hire car after 3 days as my wife couldn't stand the stress and we went on the bus!
