as I only speak English, get speed cameras from here and use Checkpoint to warn me if I'm over the speed limit as I approach one, have a pda not a smart phone so won't be receiving phone calls and I don't want to message buddies while I'm driving, unless there's an up to date map or an option to avoid tiny lanes (I'd happily trade that for the avoid motorways option) does it offer very much?

I think you know the answer! And updated maps will be available although they may require you upgrade the application.

Where is the price I can't find it anywhere?

Also I thought v 6 was going to not just tell you "turn 2nd left" but " Turn 2nd left into High Street" have I missed something?

It's what's missing I find interesting .. Where is the Test to Speech?

TTS is supposed to be a step forward and there was no mention of it.

I am also perpelexed by people stating that the PPC version/Smartphone and Nokia are on the same system and that Mobile had been dropped.

Can the mods clarify/quantify now the NDA has ceased please?

Whilst the NDA has now been lifted we don't yet have all the answers. TTS was only available on the 910 because it required nearly 4Gb of space and so it is not available on other units nor is it available on the PDA version at present.

I don't have any information on a combined smartphone/PDA version so any discussion is merely conjecture. Whilst I can see the WM5 and MS SMartphone versions combining I doubt the Palm and Symbian versions would be all bundled into one product release.

Perhaps they'll go the way the 5.2xx update went: the installers will contain the separate program data for all supported platforms, and you can either choose which version to install or it will check if for you.

Software drivers tend to do this, as one bundled file is easier for people, and as far as TomTom goes, the 5.2xx update is valid for both the Palm and PocketPC's; it contains the program data for both.

I read a french version (probably leaked) of this statement yesterday and it stated that the software would be compatible with Symbian S60 V3 users.

Obviously I can't really trust this leaked and translated version so does anyone have any information if I will be able to use this with my Nokia N80?

The price is really good. :D

kevmac YTY thank you for your post, it’s very enlightening (wow, what a difference in Portugal! - Teleatlas is at least a light year behind!!)

Anyhow, regarding V6 I think the most important question is what map versions will come with it? Everything on a GPS system revolves around the maps. If these aren’t up-to-date then the best software wont be worth a cent.
Does anyone know?

Thanx in advance!!!

Again, does anyone know what is required for the upgrade? If you can let me know what happend with previous versions it will most likely be similar.

Does it just have faith you have the version your upgrading from or do I need to dig out my activation code.

got this from tomtomsupport today

Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support. The map version for Navigator 6 will obviously be the latest version as it will be released for sale at a later date, however this software is only for use on Pocket PC, PDA and mobile phones. We are constantly updating the mapping data, but I could not reliably inform you that the changes to postcode and/or street information will vary greatly from the current version.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

ps
is it gonna be worth it ???????????????????????

Hi All

Thanks for all the replies on maps of Ireland. I did find this link a while ago on coverage from TeleAltas (bottom paragraph):

http://www.gpsireland.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=44&Itemid=2

If they don't have the latest up2date maps, don't think I'll bother. From looking at the tomtom 6 map coverage, it does not look good.

Regards
