If the i3 doesn't charge from the in car power lead, what difference does the battery option (alkaline or NiMh) in the setup menu do?

Alkaline and NiMh batteries have slightly different voltages and discharge characteristics.

It doesn't really matter which option you have it set to - it's just there to try and make the battery level indicator more accurate.

But regardless of what option you select, most i3s will get down to two bars (out of the four possible), flash up the low battery warning and turn off ten minutes later. Accuracy is not a strong point on that battery guage.

I did say that it was there to try to improve accuracy - I didn't say that it actually worked Laughing Rolling Eyes

you'll also find that when running on batteries , (and the batteries are low) any voice navigation will shut done the unit due to the power drain...

I find that my i3 (fitted to my triumph Tiger motorcycle with power lead) goes mad when the internal batteries levels fall. First i get a bleeping noises and then it tries to turn itself off and then comes back on again
