When making a phonecall using my 910, the volume is apalling. You'd only be able to hear it in an empty library Wink even though I have volume set to 100% and linked to noise level in the volume preferences.

What can I do, other than connecting the audio output to an amplifier?

My 500 was bad, but not this bad.

do you have the ttg connected to the stereo or do you mean the volume of the built-in speaker? i've only used it with the built-in speaker and to me the volume is fine, even too loud if set to 100%. the tip is to check the volume setting on the phone, i think that's the problem.

Wait, I think I'm missing something here. I have a FM transmitter and I can hear both music and directions through my car's speakers, but not phone calls. Is there an option where one can hear their phone calls?

Don't know if the x10 series is the same, but there is a volume control on the x00 series which is not mentioned in the documentation.

You must hve a call active, then tap the screen. Another menu appears with a volume control independant of the navigation voice. By default, mine was set at 50%. Increased it to 100%, and you can hear it outside of the car.

The phone does not come out of the external speakers anyway. I hope a future update will fix this. It neither comes out of the perminant docking kit.
As said there is a seperate volume control for the phone, but you can only access that during a active call.
