how accurate

hi, being new to gps, could anyone tell me how accurate the mph is on tom tom, as it differs by about 5 to 6 mph to the speedo on my car. thanks.

Generally more accurate than your speedo. Your speedo will likely tell you you are travelling faster than you actually are. This is by design, as it's better to have the error show you're going faster rather than slower than you really are. If you're travelling on pretty straight/level road, then your GPS is very accurate.

Note that the GPS speed seems to be averaged over the previous 10 seconds - you can see this as you come to a stop.

If you are on a level road, then the GPS speed is extremely accurate. Most UK car speedo's over read by between 0% and 10%, but some are also accurate!
