Hi

I have been using TomTom Nav on PDA for a few years and have decided to ditch the cumbersome PDA for a dedicated device due to the many times my PDA has crashed or run down and loosing all data.

I already own the EU and USA maps.

Having looked at each version the only difference I can see is that the higher the product number 510 contains UK (and Major EU Roads), 710 UK & Euro, 910 (20gb HDD, MP3, EURO and USA maps).

Am I correct? is the only difference the map data and the HDD on the 910? Would I be better getting the cheapest 510 as the only difference is the HDD on the 910? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Matt

With the 910 you also get the excellent Text To Speach where the unit will read out the road names as part of the navigation prompts, or you can use it to set up spoken alerts for POI files such as cameras, "what you type is what you hear" the mp3 player is good when integrated with the car so the units audio plays through the main car system, some have had trouble with this, but I find it works fine.
At the end of the day do you need the extra maps and functionality the 910 provides - Mike

Personally I would recommend the 710 and not 910, IF you are buying it for the mp3 player as the player is absolutely useless IMHO.

Thanks guys helped a lot, tho...

I can refine this even more, I have now excluded the 910, I do not need another device that plays MP3, the 20gb HDD would be nice however card memory is cheaper. One feature I would like is the text to speech although I don’t think the price difference would warrant that single feature. Another reason I have excluded this model is I want a dedicated device with one function, having used TomTom on a PDA for a few years I now find that in some cases a device can overload on features at the expense of usability and reliability.

Which brings me to the 710, if the only difference between the 710 and 510 is the map data (510 contains UK and EU Major Roads, 710 UK & EU) and not the hardware. As I already own UK, EU, USA and Canada maps I might as well opt for the 510 and save a few quid.

The cheapest 510 I can find on the net is £315.00 has anyone beaten this?

Thanks Guys.

Matt
