I can confirm that it does indeed work, and works very well. With a single english voice (Kate) the entire data takes up 486Mb.

TomTom One
Firmware 6.14
Map version 605 (original map that came with my One)
1Gb 50X Adata SD card

I thought the TTS voices only worked for navigation with the latest map v650.1052.

Can you confirm you are getting roads and place names read out during navigation with the old maps ?

Thanks

Wow! Could you just explain what you need to do to get text to speech on a TT ONE? I didn't realise it was possible!

Thanks. :P

you need the files from a 910.

if you haven't got access to a 910 it can't be done.

I'm pretty sure you also need the latest maps v650.1052.

We have confirmed that technically TTS works on all devices (down to TomTom GO Classic) - give enough space on the SD card (minimum 300 MB required).

I have TTS speech working on my brothers 510.

[instructions removed by lbendlin]

It does work with no problems.

Obviously this has been done just as a technical exercise and I deleted all the files of the 510 immediateley; incase of copyright issues.

as already described, I borrowed the english voice files from my friends' tt910. After restarting, 'Kate' was selectable, and does indeed read out streetnames, using the maps than came with the device v605.

The only other modification was upgrading my One to firmware 6.14, done earlier

Please do not post any detailed instructions publicly.

The newer maps do have phoneme information (how to spell certain names) but in my experience they make things worse. The older maps read better in most situations.

Yes it does work with v605 maps but Ive found it is only on MAJOR turns (ie A roads) not on normal roads or side streets

go to the voice selection again, and re-do the check boxes. You seem to miss a few of the checkmarks.

Will this method work with the 300? If no one is sure I'm willing to do a trial. If anyone can assist please PM me.

Sorry. TomTom have informed us that this was an glitch from their side, and will no longer be possible on any other machine. Their next software version will actively prevent TTS from running, unless a 910 is detected.

I am disappointed by that decision, to say it mildly.

Don't waste your time. We know it works for all devices except the Rider.
